the thing is, it's not so much an abomination as it is a case of who would want to buy it premixed when having the three separately gives you versatility?

{short thread} This quote-post meme thread thing struck a chord with a few folk.

For a change I wasn't riffing and this *is* a core part of some kind of intrinsic philosophy, wrapped round a complicated mish-mash of values, proof, authenticity, evidence, and the persistence and accuracy of memory.

Every evening, an additional house or two in this end of the village have put their lights and/or a Christmas tree up.

Five weeks tomorrow.

Bit worried that Google have *sigh* slapped some kind of AI functionality onto Google Scholar, but the core service still seems to be there and the AI distraction is optional.

Would be nicer if Google directed their efforts and resources into more precise article and paper detection, but hey ho.

(1/2) Checking out a few webcams in Stockholm to see if snow is falling.

Riddarfjärden, Norra Mälarstranden, Riddarholmen and Västerbron in the foreground: a wintry sheen, but can't see snow flurries.

Unfortunately, if you're of a certain age, it's impossible to hear "You're going to find me, out in the country..." without some kind of automatic reflex to sing "DFS, DFS".

EDIT: there's no mention of this online anywhere; wondering if the part of my brain filled with old TV adverts has glitched.

Between Tomasz Schafernaker accenuating forecasts of snow and cold at the end of the BBC lunchtime news, and my phone prophesising we are no longer in an English summer heatwave, I've been forced into a decision.

Later this afternoon I will purchase the first baking potatoes of this winter.

Godammit - they lured me in from my now-abandoned walk. Yet again. Even the roadrunner wouldn't fall for this signage.

(1/4) Updating my list of certificates and transcripts, and at which levels (standard degree, masters degree) I've accumulated CATS points and ECTS.

It is that time of the year when I turn on the TV, see who is being interviewed, and say "Ah, good; Jona Lewie is still alive".

Most of my wild apple trees this year struggled in the drought and made little to no fruit but Matilda Dodge’s trees on the Oakland U campus—downhill from a vast irrigated lawn—had their best year since I’ve lived here. I picked these in the wind and rain, they’re heirlooms and they are delicious

Startled at the weather forecast for tomorrow, which contains the first use of * for this season.

Now wondering if I should get the saddle out of the attic, for putting on the tauntaun before venturing to Aldi in the morning.

Professional video by a commercial operation in Sweden - latitude 64° north - who use the -30°C/-22°F winter climate in their process of making strong cider/apple wine.

(this is somewhat different from home or farm made scrumpy in 1970s/80s rural Worcestershire)

Collecting some of the eclectic stationary and pens from various drawers, with a quiet determination not to purchase any more for a while. At least.

I accept this resolution will inevitably fail.

Wondering what the cat is destroying downstairs at {checks} 5:33am, but too sleepy comfy to get out of bed to find out.

So long as the cat hasn't yet levelled up to starting house fires (give it time) I'll deal with it during daylight.
