Worth noting that for more than 24h, since plans for RIFs began circulating, legal scholars have been saying that a shutdown conveys NO authority to the White House to conduct firings at agencies.
Illegality has not stopped this administration in the past months ofc. It apparently has not tonight.

I got to this part of the article and screamed because you do not need to ask experts if BASIC MATH IS IMPOSSIBLE
A paragraph from the quoted CNN story reading “Tuesday’s move is among Trump’s recent efforts to get drug makers to reduce their prices, which has been one of his central goals since his first presidential campaign. He has recently promised to slash prices by 1,500% — which is mathematically impossible, experts say.”

You need at least one OR, ideally beds not in the ER for continued care (let’s not promote boarding) including critical care beds for those very sick, all the imaging, cath lab, pharmacy, and most of the specialists that appear at Glaucomflecken General.

That’s a hospital!

Chilly enough this morning that I put on a coat that I haven’t worn since last winter/early spring. I reached into the pockets for warmth, and then wanted to see what Past Me left in the pockets last winter.

It was three KN95 masks.

😂 ok I guess every year can’t be “surprise money”.

An “ER” without a hospital is a fancy urgent care.

We are working on getting our hospital back in town and when you think about what you would need *just* to support the ER, it’s a full hospital.

ER doc here! There is no such thing as “an ER model” hospital. An ER w/o a hospital is like a bandaid on a bullet hole. What if you need surgery? Cardiac cath? Specialist care? Increased distance means delays, which mean real harms & even deaths. But, also, when hospitals close their ERs close, too…

SCARBOROUGH: The Nebraska Rural Health Association says at least 6 rural hospitals would have to close bc of the big beautiful bill

FLOOD: Here's the deal: Some hospitals that are rural hospitals are going to eventually have to transition from being acute bed hospitals into being an ER model

I suppose! Although Red to Orange line in theory wouldn’t be a ton of walking, it’s amusing that that’s not even an option.

MBTA, you are not helping the cause when trying to help people navigate Boston.

In WHAT WORLD is taking the 4 from South Station the “Most Direct” route here?

(Tagging @universalhub.com for the chuckle)
Proposed options for travel, with “MOST DIRECT” taking the 4 bus for 24 minutes, “EARLIEST ARRIVAL” being walking for 12 minutes, and the third option being the Red Line for 8 minutes. A map of downtown Boston with a yellow line tracing the path of the 4 bus from South Station (marked with an A) up through the North End before coming down near the Old State House (marked with a B)

I thought of you when I saw this - I wouldn’t smoke this because ew, stuff growing on it, but the whole “test your pot” doesn’t make a ton of sense. (Test your heroin, sure)

The acting CDC Director has no knowledge, training or experience in science/public health. Trump has no knowledge, training or experience in science/public health.

Both are calling to make the MMR vaccine into 3 separate shots, which makes absolutely no scientific or public health sense.

Jim O’Neill joins President Donald Trump’s call for three distinct measles, mumps and rubella shots, claiming a separation would ‘reduce the risk of side effects’ and ‘maximize parental choice’

Grrr... More doubtmongering noise.

"NO evidence that giving shots separately for measles, mumps, and rubella offers any advantage in terms of safety or effectiveness."

But like, it might be 3-10 business days from today. Or tomorrow. Or never if Customs keeps inventing dumb reasons to hold my package.
kkinzel.bsky.social
The shipper wrote to me today with the item listing and told me they sent it to FedEx. I emailed my agent.

A few hours later he called me, asking for that information.

I asked if he got my email. He hadn’t checked, but did and it was there.

So. Maybe Customs will release now?
kkinzel.bsky.social
So shortly after I called the main FedEx line on Friday I got a call from the international agent assigned to my tracking number, where he told me Customs wanted the weight of *each item*.

I didn’t have that, I just had the package weight. So I asked the shipper.

On the way back to the volunteer room I had this lovely conversation:

Me: I heard you are a retired pediatrician?

Volunteer: Yes, boy did I get out at the right time! And what in public health do you do?

Me: Ah, I’m a deputy immunization program manager…

Volunteer: OMG YOU ARE A HERO

Count on the MRC staff to ACT IT UP!

We were all fantastic actors. Got some pizza for our efforts and gave some harsh constructive feedback during the hot wash. This is why we practice, folks!

One of the coordinators took my initial hesitation on getting this badge as not wanting to be injured, but I was trying to figure out how to be ambulatory on a traumatically dislocated hip.

Looking forward to making life hellish for whomever comes to rescue me. 🤣
An identification badge with a gray “Injured” at the top, a drawing of a stick figure with a bandaged leg, and the text “Injured Ambulatory Location: On Commuter Rail Train Symptoms: Dislocated hip, contusions DO NOT SHOW CARD TO FIRST RESPONDERS

Lesson learned, don’t take the train to Gillette 🤣🤣

Participating in a drill today as part of my MRC and this is likely the only photograph I’ll be able to take.
Two identification badges, the first says Volunteer in red and the second says Injured in gray

Conducted a grand experiment today called “pretty sure something is trying to eat my jade plant even though all google searches don’t match what I’m seeing so I dunked it in a barrel of Murphy Oil Soap and now I’ll see if it survives”.

Right now it looks great, probably because it’s clean. 🤣

I called FedEx to complain this morning and they told me that at this point it’s 100% US Customs’ fault and in theory the package will be released in 3-10 business days.

We looked back on the "backlash" against American Eagle ads featuring Sydney Sweeney and her "great jeans." Right-wing media declared that liberals were outraged and thought the ads were racist -- even the White House joined in.

If you thought that story reeked, you'll want to see what we found.

American Eagle was dragged into an online outrage cycle after conservative media figures claimed that liberals were offended by the clothing company's ads featuring Sydney Sweeney and a denim-themed pun about her "great jeans."

We checked the data. That wasn't true.
