Blanton Woods in Danville was a wonderful offroad excursion (and shortcut). One of the great things about riding a gravel bike with 700c x 38mm all-road tires is that it can readily handle almost anything (sure, slowly at times).

Yesterday I completed a 100-km ride along the full length of the B&O rail trail from Indianapolis to the back roads of Hendricks County, including an offroad section through Blanton Woods.

I've uploaded a highlights video, which includes the full return trip at 25x speed youtu.be/rGhzTvZU5L0

That bridge is really cool. Reminds me of the one on the Dust Bowl 100 route near Fillmore (39.695941, -86.784318).

Nice ride! I did something quite similar today, but just tooled around the backroads of Hendricks County, heading down to Blanton Woods in Danville and back. Beautiful day!

fun fact: formal "hello" in Finnish is "hei," so to an English speaker it sounds like everyone is super chill all the time

(the informal greeting is "moi")

(Finnish people are super chill)

@beefanddairy.bsky.social covered this recently. Except it was quails breeding with superquail that were engineered to be used as cattle feed. It didn't go well. Nevertheless…

can we use feral superhogs as cattle feed?

here is the current tactical map of where feral swine populations have consolidated

the major worry is if the Canadian superhogs end up making their way down south and breeding with the American hogs

This one was out there last year and didn't seem to work either. Or maybe like the proverbial genie is has an unexpected interpretation of those wishes…

The B&O trail officially opened yesterday, connecting Indianapolis to Hendricks County, after construction on the final segment near Country Club Rd was completed this summer.

It's very exciting, anyone who's tried riding around here before knows how terrible the alternative routes were!

Sounds an awful lot like depression doesn’t it?

And hell yeah Ethiopian. Axum in Indianapolis is so damn good.

Hah, I was wondering about that pitting during a run up there a couple weeks ago. “Someone must have screwed up and mixed in the wrong aggregate…”

the Forbidden Donut, vestige of Homer's soul, is certainly nontrivial; also some would argue a donut doesn't even belong on an axis of bread, hence "forbidden" (tho the GBBO firmly closed that in the last bread week).
And now I've definitely thought about this too much. Thanks for the fun diversion!

This looks really interesting. I'm personally torn over rail trails; I'm saddened by the loss they represent—accessible widespread public transit wholly replaced by private transportation—but I love cycling on them and appreciate what the auto has done to bring many things and people closer.

Thrilled that someone finally made a documentary about the rail trail movement that treats that history for what it is: a fascinating and shockingly controversial story about the right to public space, which is every bit as epic as the battle against the highway movement (which sometimes overlaps).

Some of the fiercest battles for the future of public space in America have happened on abandoned railway corridors — and the battles aren't over yet.

These witches are not to be underestimated, for they have mastered the ability to float in water, thus subverting the most cutting-edge detection methods our scientists have yet devised.

When I went to the gym this morning, a beautiful warm sun was rising above Indianapolis. When I left, clouds had chilled the air and a coven of witches and their familiars were performing some ancient ritual.

A view from nearly the same vantage point, now with gray skies and a few dozen people in black lined up along both sides of the canal.

Right after the camera panned up the squirrel started running towards one of the trees, then changed direction and ran into the street, where it paused while thinking over the capriciousness of life…

Downtown Cleveland? Sorry but that squirrel is toast. Good on Sup to try though.
