Now for something completely different, my first 2026 movie.

Feels like Nolan really departed from the source material here, but when you're dealing with an epic poem from 2,700 years ago, I guess you have to take some liberties to bring it to 21st century screens.

My earliest memory of having my mind blown by a movie is the dragon fight in this.

I don't really remember anything else about it. Let's see.

Happy weekend.

Yes, he's the epitome of slimy political chameleon, he doesn't have a single conviction other than that he should be president, and if you offered him $5 to go down on you he'd drop to his knees while wondering why you're overpaying by $4.95, but sometimes he sends tweets that sound like Trump!!

Continuing my snowed-in-with-classic-Disney-animation evening

It's surprising seeing all the RKO Pictures logos on these huge movies. People forget, or don't realize, that it was a major player in Hollywood's golden age before Howard Hughes sunk the company.

All the #AbolishICE people were right.

And it was obvious in real-time that they were.

Hot take: A minor factor in the drop-off of comic book movies is that superheroes are often inherently fascist and now is not the time for such nonsense.

Trump's pathetic answer against small-d democratic accountability is exactly Captain America's position on the Sokovia Accords in CA: Civil War:

#Podcasts designed to also function as YouTube shows is quickly resulting in worse and worse podcasts. 2025 was the worst year for the audio medium, by far.

Homicide by David Mamet tonight. On Criterion Channel.

Always a nice surprise to hit play on a movie and find out from the opening credits that it was lensed by Deakins.

"A memorandum was circulated to all state civil servants demanding blind loyalty to the Hitler government. Anyone who did not feel they could support Hitler and his policies, Göring added, should do the “honorable” thing and resign."

Strongly recommended that you occasionally throw on a movie you know basically nothing about - genre, plot, audience reception, critical reception, nothing.

This one is from the early 90s and has Val Kilmer. Let's see how it goes.

A little Sunday morning western never hurt anyone.

Also, more movies should have opening theme songs.

I haven't watched 12 Angry Men in years, since before practicing law. My opinion to date is that it is a very fine film. But it's not in my top 3 for 1957 or Lumet or Fonda.

Let's see if a rewatch changes my mind

Rewatching Scorsese's No Direction Home.

Rolling Thunder Revue is in some ways more cinematic, as it's a fable about a fabulist. I wouldn't even call it documentary. You have to wrestle it, but the juice is worth the squeeze.

NDH is just a truly great, smart doc, with an all-time ending.

Happy new Nolan year to all who celebrate.

I've only seen this once before, but I guess I'll watch everything of his in 26. Rumour has it the TIFF Lightbox theater here in Toronto is going to run a retrospective series this summer. 🤞
