I'm gonna make a thread for all my Muppet Princess Bride art for the Bluesky crowd! First up is the poster I made

#MuppetPrincessBride #Kermit #MissPiggy
A redrawn version of the Princess Bride poster, with Kermit and Miss Piggy standing in for Westley and Buttercup. They are gazing at each other and holding hands. A tag line reads "Frogs. Dogs. Bears. Chickens. Whatever. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum fairy tale remake". The bottom of the poster reads "Muppet Princess Bride"

But also guess what Uncle Dan, some 30 years later it turns out you ARE a dink (And not in the dual-income-no-kids way).
komakesthings.bsky.social
Thinkin' about how as a kid I first heard the word "Dink" from Sharon, Lois & Bram, and I didn't know what it was also slang for so I called my Uncle a dink and got in trouble for it all while not knowing WHY I was getting in trouble (I kept trying to explain "It's just a funny word in a song!").

Yeah, that'd be incredible wouldn't it? You've reminded me how apparently Jareth's mask in Labyrinth was won by a fan in a raffle. I wonder if that fan still has it tucked away in a box in their basement somewhere?
An article from Smash Hits from December 1986, page 70. The article details ways to enter a raffle to win Jareth's horned mask from the film Labyrinth.

I have to assume everything will be completely out of my price range, but I really hope that we get some really good reference photos of all these props. If fans can't own the actual prop, at least we can replicate them!

Jim Henson would've been 89 years old today. Commemorate his life and legacy by celebrating creativity, diversity, imagination, peace, and just plain silliness.

Walk with me a bit while I talk about Jim and his work--and leave your comments about what he means to you.

Right this way. /1
This is one of my very favorite images, as it features characters performed by Jim Henson throughout his life holding photos (or, in the case of Ernie, drawings) of him at about the period he was performing the character. Among the Muppets shown: Cantus, Dr. Teeth, the Swedish Chef, Sam, Link Hogthrob, Ernie, Kermit (two iterations), and Guy Smiley.

Don't beat yourself up about it too bad, we've all gotten got by something like that before! You gave someone the benefit of the doubt and they proved you wrong, that's not on you but on them for being the type of person that your good faith was wasted on.

I can just picture the physical recoil you probably did when you found out

(The little frame/shield thingy in the pic is made out of stacked pieces of poster paper glued together to build up depth, with a bit of red bondo body filler to smooth it out. Fiddly work, but pretty pleased it turned out as nice as it did!)

It takes me so long to make prop replicas nowadays because I feel like I'm holding myself up to higher and higher standards of quality. Which always makes for a great end result, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss when I was managing to make a cool prop every month.
A photo of a hand holding a small framed shield, like the kind used on antique clocks. The shield is made out of thin sheets of paper stacked on top of each other, with red body filler to smooth out the shape. In the background is a replica of an antique clock, currently unfinished.

I'm finding myself spending less and less time on social media in general, and feeling less and less FOMO for it. I'm sure "limit your time online" is not a new bit of advice to you, but I'd definitely recommend it (especially if that leads you to spending more time on a hobby that brings you joy)
komakesthings.bsky.social
Totally relatable, it's frustrating how much of our lives we have to dedicate to the stuff that just keeps us going (as opposed to what truly gives us joy). I don't have any good advice for dealing with that frustration, other than to try and take solace in what time you do get with your passions.

The important thing is that you're happy/proud of what you produce, if that means we all gotta wait a bit longer for the next season then so be it! Your work is worth the wait. Plus, you don't wanna burn yourself out by forcing yourself to work on it in sub-optimal conditions.

I'm totally willing to admit he's rad under the strict condition that he stays outside! But if he crosses that threshold he's gonna get demoted from radical to badical

I'm "okay" with spiders generally, but that ends when they're so big that their footsteps can make sound loud enough for the human ear to perceive
komakesthings.bsky.social
There was an extra large-sized spider hanging outside my front door a few nights ago and now every time I open my door I do so slowly, afraid it's 1. Gonna be out there again and 2. Take me opening the door as an invitation to come in.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑
Frustrated little dude gripping a pencil saying “how do I pack this down into something I can actually share?” While swirling rainbows labeled “INFINITE POTENTIAL” float around them.

Little dude frowns at a tiny grey box, exclaiming “all that work for THIS?!”

Little dude shoves the grey box into another little guy’s hands; Frowning, stomping off, and saying “Here you go, I made this, it sucks.”

Second little dude cracks open the box, swirling rainbows project out onto their face.

Second little dude stares in awe at all the swirling rainbows now floating around them.

I actually don't mind a bit of tedium, so I might be able to use that to my advantage. "Oh what's that Nephew, you're bored of excavating? Oh that's okay... let Auntie finish that one for you..."
komakesthings.bsky.social
Most times I did this I didn't have a hammer, so I'd just find a rock that little me thought had good Geode vibes and huck it as hard as I could against the sidewalk to try and break it.
komakesthings.bsky.social
The geode one especially, when I was a kid I spent a lotta time trying to smash open any rock I found in our backyard (mostly generic construction gravel) because I assumed that eventually I'd find one with a geode in it.
komakesthings.bsky.social
I bought a few craft kits/activity kits for my Nephew but the problem is I ALSO want to dig up a fake dinosaur tooth/smash open a geode, so it's extremely tempting to keep these kits for myself

I lived in B.C. for a bit so by the time Armagohma came around I was a lot more desensitized to monster-sized spiders
