Chiming in to add that this nonsense lets them get the highly educated, and necessary, workforce while still keeping a significant portion of them proletarianized or as highly precarious petite bourgeoisie. It really is impressive how finely tuned every aspect of society is for wage slavery.
The way student loans are meant to limit your options in general is truly unhinged. I have fully paid off the amount I took out twice and still owe more than I took out.

Transition was great for the first two months because every change was exciting and new and improved. But eventually that becomes the new norm and you get time to be disappointed in specific features and mannishness in a particular way vs the a diffuse haze beforehand.
