Would so like to see more of this in US cities.
“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.”

#Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.
Copenhagen has taken bicycle commuting to a whole new level
Cycling has been a part of that good life in Copenhagen for decades. In recent years, it has enjoyed yet another unfathomable surge in popularity — taken to the next level thanks to constantly improvi...

This is more than true of me. I tend to walk miles more each day when I'm in a walkable city than I do when I'm in a car-centric city. I will walk places I don't even need to go just because I can.
"Moving from a less walkable (25th percentile) city to a more walkable city (75th percentile) increased walking by 1,100 daily steps, on average. These changes hold across different genders, ages and body mass index values, and are sustained over 3 months."

Most of the world has been experiencing days like this at some point or other, more and more frequently. This is excellent advice.
days like today are a great reminder that portland should be

a) planting as many shade-giving, low water trees as possible
b) setting annual targets for depaving asphalt
c) expediting getting heat pumps into homes, especially for seniors/others vulnerable
d) not spending billions to widen a freeway
We are currently seeking case studies and evidence-based solutions for flooding, including ecological, flood-resistant green building, recovery from toxic exposure and mold, soil recovery, and prevention/mitigation. This piece explains more about our project. open.substack.com/pub/permalif...

We're accepting feedback on the (beta) manuals; more specialty manuals up soon. We're also collecting case studies of successful regenerative solutions to disasters; ecological, building, energy, community, etc. Please consider sharing if you know of some! Manuals here: pcx.earth/disasters.

I've been working on compiling manuals for regenerative disaster management for a few months now, with a couple of organizations. We're having a free online summit Aug 18-23 on this important topic. If you're interested in this topic, hope to see you there! pina.in/summit_disas...

Feeling it in West Central Florida currently. We've had less rain for a year now too, not good for the orchard on my farm.
How is climate change making our summer worse? This.

Florida temps are above average—now 3-5x more likely in late July due to human-created heat-trapping pollution.

Oppressive humidity? From an unnaturally hot Gulf, made 20-40x more likely by the same

There are so many excellent reasons to focus on microgrids to provide our energy needs. This is just one of a long list of ways microgrids create more resilience.
We need to start building for the actual weather. Bonus, far less toxic and has fire and earthquake resistance, looks and feels great.

The researchers concluded that “parents using active transport modes (walking or biking) consistently report healthier body mass index values, higher life satisfaction, greater travel satisfaction, and better academic performance in their children.”

This series is packed with info that is relevant to anybody affected by weather. We've been silo'ed to the point where it's hard to evaluate what's important but understanding weather and other planetary indicators has never been more important. This helps!

My outdoor recreation is mostly free - taking care of a few acres of land; a food forest, gardens, wild areas, and documenting native flora and fauna on INaturalist and elsewhere. So much fun! Also love hiking/kayaking. Glad to see this trend, hopefully will lead to more stewardship!
In 2023, in the United States, the outdoor recreation economy outpaced every other sector in growth. It accounts for a total of 2.3% of total US Gross Domestic Product (GDP), ($639.5 billion.)

US total capacity is 1.3TW.
MAJOR MILESTONE 🏆 China's installed capacity of solar has now reached 1TW☀️

It's an astonishing achievement, and seemingly accelerating. 92GW were commissioned in May 2025 alone 😮 By contrast, total UK solar capacity is just over 20GW.

Just amazing.

Simple living is massively therapeutic. Getting rid of crap feels wonderful. Living for relationships, appreciating the bounty of nature, feeds our souls. As opposed to consuming endless streams of literally toxic crap - microplastics are making us stupid, as a race. bit.ly/4kNPSHX

We think we are inventing the #circularEconomy?

It does need to be refurbished every 300 years...
