When it comes to fatal state violence against civilians, the U.S. is already an outlier.

And now the federal government is using guns against the people, calling it patriotism, and promising itself impunity and absolution.

🧵 The result will be more people shot and killed by our government —
When violence by state actors becomes normalized and guns become a regular part of conflict, it sends the anti-democratic message that we must all live in fear because shooting first and asking questions later is the norm.

I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Brady PAC @bradypac.bsky.social . I’ve seen firsthand the devastation gun violence brings to our communities, and I’m committed to keep fighting for common-sense solutions like background checks and banning assault weapons to keep our communities safe.

Every year, gun violence rips families apart and steals the lives of our friends, neighbors, and children. I’m proud to receive @bradypac.bsky.social’s endorsement and will continue to fight for a world free from the scourge of gun violence.

Gun violence is a senseless epidemic – and one we can end.

As governor, we created background checks and a ban on large capacity magazines. In the Senate, we passed the strongest national gun safety law in decades.

Honored to have @bradypac.bsky.social continue this fight with us.

I’m honored to earn @bradypac.bsky.social’s endorsement.

As a father, veteran, and responsible gun owner, I find it unacceptable that so many communities have been affected by the epidemic of gun violence.

As long as I'm in Congress, I will work for responsible solutions to end this epidemic.

This isn’t about safety.
At all.

We shouldn’t have to accept fear as the price of living in America.

@bradypac.bsky.social is backing 13 House and Senate candidates who are fighting for the safety we deserve — leaders who understand that public safety means fewer guns in dangerous hands, stronger communities, and lives saved.
Today, we’re proud to endorse 13 frontline House and Senate candidates in the nation’s most competitive races who are fighting for the safety we deserve.

Another person has been shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

The federal government is using guns against people on American soil and calling it patriotism.

We cannot allow this violence to continue.

They blame mental health.

They cut mental health care.

They protect unfettered access to guns.

Amazing how the real problem is the one that they always refuse to touch.

The government does not get to redefine the law by tweet.

Federal authority is constrained by constitutional law and oversight. Claims of blanket immunity are dangerous.

Social media posts are not a substitute for the U.S. Constitution.

January has already asked a lot of us, so it’s worth naming the bright spot.

Abigail Spanberger taking office on Saturday matters for Virginians who carry loss, for parents who worry, and for communities who were repeatedly denied progress by Glenn Youngkin.

This moment matters. #VAGov

Today, SCOTUS hears two more cases impacting trans youth. These cases have serious implications for the mental well-being of young people, which directly correlates to the risk of gun violence.

We must protect the dignity & freedom of trans youth and also ensure guns are stored securely.

Women know this script by heart — blame us, & then erase us.

This is what happens when people in power stop seeing Renee Good & others as human beings. When victims become reduced as a justification for violence.

This is misogyny backed by fear & force.

Renee mattered. We will never forget her.
Trump on the killing of Renee Good: "At a very minimum, that woman was very, very disrespectful to law enforcement. And you heard the same noises, you saw the same crunch that I saw. You can't do that with law enforcement."

Only in this administration is a mother shot in the face 3 times by a federal agent and somehow SHE comes under scrutiny, not the shooter.

That’s this administration telling us exactly who it protects.

Americans are tired of being lied to about what safety looks like while we repeatedly bury the consequences of the Trump administration’s actions.

Safety can’t grow where fear is the point. And it can’t survive without accountability.
Since the Trump administration launched its violent anti-immigration campaign, there have been 30 incidents of federal agents shooting someone or holding them at gunpoint. Federal officers have fatally shot at least 4 people, including Renee Nicole Good.

This week in Locked & Unloaded, I look back at the tragic events of Jan. 6 and how the events of that day were a predictable outcome of a shoot-first mentality — a mentality that is being fortified by the White House and was on full display in Minneapolis this week.

New video shows Renee Good speaking kindly to an ICE agent as she sat in her car.

20 seconds later, he shot her 3 times & said, “f—- b—-“ as she lay dying.

Her kindness was met with contempt, with bullets, & with the dehumanization of a young mother he was speaking with just moments before.

Renee Good was any mother we know — the one with her kid's toys stuffed in her glove box, driving home after the morning school drop.

She as a poet, a wife, a friend, a daughter.

She was more than blood stains on a deployed air bag, and she deserved better. We all do.
