One thing I do know is that various governments are attempting to pass legislation that will require all social media companies to do something similar, only the legislative versions are ten times more draconian and invasive. I donât love what Discord is doing, but at the same timeâ

Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)

We could pay workers more and have parents work less so they can actually spend time with their kids. We could provide financial and health stabilities so more families can support each other but no, lets jsut collect biometric data instead and pretend we're restricting access

What drives me insane is that people think that age verification is somehow going to resolve the very real issue of SM related mental health issues. Instead, we could fund youth programs, provide them with IRL spaces to hang out, and provide them with guidance and resources to face adversity

Everyone talking about jumping ship from discord over this...good luck, because any new or future platforms are likely to have this baked in from the start going forward. It is the only way for them be legally compliant in MULTIPLE countries now.

Maybe I should travel this year and actually get out of my hometown. I want to see friends IRL but without a specific event I feel awkward asking. Even then, I hate asking if they are going to certain cons.

I've been questioning if I really am aro ace recently. On the other hand I'm feeling more enby than ever so while that feels good but that comes with it's own set of problems.

We have to get more vocal about our joys. Even the simplest. We have to share more of why it's worth it. I know it's in the human nature to focus on the negative, and it is important to talk about what's wrong. But don't lose sight of the good, the fulfilling, the sources of happiness.

That and also I'm generally not as busy in the weeks after new years.
I do think it's good to reflect when one can though as long as it doesn't cause a downward spiral.
That said I do want to try and be a bit more open, as is with my recent feeling towards people and relationships.

I know it really is mostly just a number but I think me turning 40 this year is why I've been in a reflective mood recently. That and it's around the time of year I fell out with a previous friend group and the last time I met up with an irl friend who later kind of ghosted me.
