When they tell you they plan on throwing out the constitution, believe them.

✨ During my session on 10/16, attendees will get free access to Marvin, an AI-powered research tool, so everyone can get hands-on experience generating personas and journey maps using real data.

@cperfetti.bsky.social told me the last collective cohort was full of energy and collaboration, and I can’t wait to build on that momentum.

One of the things I love most about this kind of space is connecting with other researchers. It's a great space to compare challenges, share real-world stories, and exploring how AI is reshaping the way we work.

I’m excited to join the Collective Cohort on Reimagining UX Research in the AI Age to share my process for using AI to streamline the creation of personas and journey maps!

The cohort runs from Oct 9—24, 2025. See link in 🧵 for more details.

Big tech is laying off user researchers in droves, because it believes that coercing its customers is more profitable than silly things like "making good products people want to buy."

But now the FAFO pendulum is coming around, with Amazon's $2.5B dark pattern settlement and #a11y lawsuits galore.
UX so bad that it's illegal
Big tech is divesting from user-centered design, and getting into hot water with the law.

Hearing them describe how they’ve found a way to work together without giving up their independence is inspiring, and a great reminder that there’s no one “right” way to structure a consulting career.

🍫 + 🥜 When two independent consultants combine their strengths, they create something neither could offer alone...

In this new ep. of The UX Consultants Lounge, I talk w/ @steveportigal.bsky.social and @pseudoroom.bsky.social about their recent decision to collaborate.

ELIZABETH WARREN: What Zohran is saying is 'I want people to be able to afford to live in NYC'

FABER: But raising taxes in order to do it?

WARREN: Oh my goodness! Oh dear! Are you worried that billionaires are going to go hungry?

“And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed – if all records told the same tale – then the lie passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past," ran the Party slogan, "controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’"

Exclusive: The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History removed references to President Trump's two impeachments from an exhibit — an apparent change to its plans to update its collection of artifacts about the historic

@cperfetti.bsky.social , @brownorama.bsky.social , and Susan Mercer. I’m so grateful for your honesty and insights, and for being willing to share the full reality of this work, the highs and the lows.

🫶 To my listeners: thank you. Your support means so much.
If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, I’d love to invite you to give it a listen. Whether you’re just starting out or have been consulting for years, I hope the Lounge feels like a space to learn, laugh, & feel a little less alone.

My original goal was to publish at least once a month. I came close, with 11 episodes in 12 months, missing just one due to a last-minute scheduling hiccup. I wish I could produce more, but it’s tough to find time between work, family, and some new exciting projects (more on that soon!).

🔔 If you’ve enjoyed the show, I’d be so grateful if you could rate, comment, or subscribe on your favorite podcast platform. Every little bit helps spread the word.

Learning how to host, record, edit, and publish a podcast has definitely come with its challenges, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed the process. It feels good to put something into the world that I hope is helpful to others in the UX community.

🎉 One year ago, I launched The UX Consultants Lounge, a podcast about the real, messy, and meaningful work of UX consulting. Twelve months and eleven episodes later, it’s still going strong!

📍 You can find it on your favorite podcast platform or at uxconsultantslounge.com

If you need to participate in society vis-à-vis "jobs", this new book by my pal Margo (definitely a human and not AI) might help you.

Plus, it's a good size for flinging against the wall when the whole process gets too annoying.

On sale right now! Good Job: Designing Interviews and Interviewing in Design.

It's a two-sided book: read it one way as an interviewer, the other way as a candidate. It's a well-balanced, insightful, way of dealing with hiring and getting hired.

🚨 🎧 Ever wonder what really goes on when a client decides whether to hire you, or whether you should bring in a UX consultant?

This week on The UX Consultants Lounge, I welcome my first client into the Lounge, Susan Mercer!

Aw, thank you Dan! It was such a treat to dig into your story and you were incredibly generous with the gems. So glad we got to capture this moment as Curious Squid turns one! 🦑🎉
