And to instead spend our funds supporting non-profit and academy-based publishers who share our values and deliver value. But I don't blog anymore, so this will do.

I would suggest that maybe this budget crisis is the time to finally say NO to spending precious library dollars to fill the pockets of shareholders of for-profit publishers who routinely report stupid high profits margins ..

The first books in @leverpress.bsky.social's Re-Editions series are out this year!

The first (May) is the archival manuscript of José Villarreal's groundbreaking Chicano novel Pocho, originally called Our Little Life!

The second (Nov) is a selection of Chinese children's primers.
Book cover for "Our Little Life" by Jose Antonio Villareal, edited by Juan Velasco. The cover has an image of a line drawing of a bandido on a horse with some hills in the background. The drawing is from an early 1970s flyer for a local reading Velasco did in California. Book cover for "Traditional Chinese Children's Primers: A Sourcebook" translated and edited by Katherine Ngo and Kelly Ngo. The cover has an image of a Chinese painting: a mom holding a baby and handing it off to a nurse/maid.

BREAKING: The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University has reneged on their commitment to host the @sciencewriters.org annual conference and withdrew their entire financial support.

The National Association of Science Writers is now looking for a new venue, sponsors, and partners.

US Bioethics colleagues: I'm talking with Cdn bioethics colleagues about how we can support you, even if it's only by providing a space for free speech, such as the Canadian Journal of Bioethics (cjb-rcb.ca). And if you have to publish anonymously, we can do that as well.

Dear President Zelensky,

As it is likely that our paths will never cross in person, I could not let this day go by without trying to reach you here.

I come to you humbly as an American citizen who is thoroughly and completely embarrassed of our leaders.
