Thank you to everyone who joined and supported our conference on Monitoring Ecosystem Recovery at the Landscape Scale this week. We are so pleased a wide range of delegates from academia, policy and practice decided to join us - we hope you made many new and valuable connections 🌳
A group of conference delegates walk through the valley at Carifran wildwood on the third day of the conference. The group is surrounded by greenery with a dark moody sky in the background All the conference delegates smile and wave to the camera A group of conference delegates stand around ecologist, Leonie, and manager, Gill, during a tour of Lauriston farm on the third day of the conference. They stand in front of young trees with tree guards, on a grassy path, with a dark cloudy sky in the background. Conference host, Marc, introduces the conference program, standing in front of a PowerPoint slide that says it will contain 4 thematic sessions, 4 keynotes, 11 posters, 145 minutes of interactive discussion, 2 field trips and 83 conference delegates

Heading back south after two varied weeks in Scotland: Cairngorms with @colsocbi.bsky.social, holiday on South Uist and Barra and finally @landscapeecologyuk.bsky.social conference in Edinburgh with a trip to Carrifran. Great memories made, much to think about and I hope to haste back 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Astonishing: “in 2024, British bumblebees experienced their worst year since the BCT started its monitoring campaign…the numbers of bees were down by more than one fifth…one of our commonest species, the Red-tailed Bumblebee declined a staggering 74%” 🐝

Excellent summary article here ⬇️

Recently the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (BCT) reported that, in 2024, British bumblebees experienced their worst year since the BCT started its monitoring campaign.

All of which begs an important question: what is happening to wild #bees in Britain?
