Though the Court once "declared drug-dog sniffs unique, evidence has shown that the infallible drug dog is a thing of myth. Dog sniffs should be treated like other Fourth Amendment intrusions--especially in the area immediately surrounding the home." [Matt Cavedon on Cato brief in Johnson v. U.S.]

But homes under a common roof should enjoy the same Fourth Amendment protections as those beneath their own eaves. And the people who live within apartment homes, whether due to the accidents of life ...

I'm not sure if this answers my questions about contempt of court in the USA or just raises additional ones.
This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

Moral of the story: A man cannot give police consent to search a woman's purse. It will raise Bill of Rights issues and probably Charter Rights issues up here in Canada.
Man consents to search of his pickup truck, officers find a purse inside and search it. Ohio Ct App: Search of purse was invalid, as man did not have apparent authority over the purse, which belonged to female passenger.
