The discussion I've seen so far on the inconsistent decisions in Dosa v. HRTO has been focused on technical elements, but I'm far more interested to see whether we end up with more guidance from the courts on how to apply intersectionality in human rights cases:

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

A great article looking at the "how" in responding to online harassment, but I want to also remind everyone on the "why" - harassment in response to communications that form part of an employee's position are an occupational health and safety risk that employers have a legal duty to respond to!
Hear, hear! So important...👇

As someone with no interest in sports, I was always pulled into the story by Colleen Jones, and I'm so sad to hear of her passing. The loss of a very bright light in broadcasting.

So is Alberta also going to exclude the application of OHS and human rights laws? Because if a regulated professional makes public remarks that target protected groups u, or which create an unsafe workplace for employees who are members of those groups, there are still remedies.

Important advocacy work by the CBA to push for clear immigration pathways for trans people fleeing from the USA.
The CBA is calling for changes to Canada's immigration system, one that is ill-equipped to respond to the surge of inquiries from trans Americans fearing violence and persecution: https://bit.ly/4rbTgje

Just a reminder not to normalize yelling at people in the workplace, which in almost every case [in BC] amounts to bullying and harassment and is an occupational health and safety issue [under the BC WCA] [insert applicable workplace health and safety law of the appropriate jurisdiction].
Q: Your voice sounds rough. Are you feeling okay?

T: I was shouting at people bc they were stupid about something having to do with trade. I blew my stack at these people

Q: Well it sounds like there's a follow up there-

T: What? I thought you said there was a polyp. I don't want to hear that!

The risk of embedded bias and discriminatory output has been a known problem with AI systems from well before the current ubiquity, but lawyers in particular still need to pause and question how we are using it.
