Superb summary of the Global Fund replenishment, and why it holds a mirror up to broader geopolitical shifts. "The rhetoric of shared responsibility persists but the financial backbone that sustains it is weakening"

Blanket ban on sending money abroad is antithetical to liberal democracy, would upend trade, and, given remittances are larger than development aid, would cause serious harm to vulnerable people around the world bsky.app/profile/sund...
Trevor Phillips proposes banning "remittances" (ie: imposing currency/exchange controls on international cash transfers by foreign nationals from Britain). He says this would disincentivise immigration, in a Times piece saying the Home Secretary needs to go [much] further

My sense is Trudeau asked early on, and GAC had continual struggles to meet political needs. But then as the grind of govt went on and energy went out of FFP, they settled into an uneasy truce of policy in name but not in writing
November 24, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Translation: the last govt actively did not want a written feminist foreign policy. It benefitted from Schrodinger's policy that was flexible. I assume Carney asked for something written when he came in, and got a half-baked 'maybe this ???' cause it was the first time anything had been written

Th irony of all this is that feminist analysis is the best way to understand current geopolitics and shifts in and between many countries

Nobody understands raw power and how it gets (mis)used like feminists nationalnewswatch.com/2025/11/24/g...

Supporting generic production of vaccines, so we can lower the price of a malaria vaccine by 25%, is a good use of donor aid money

That's 7 million more children who won't get malaria

really is incredible how often "men are having a problem, let's fix it using someone else's entire life" comes up. does the institute for family studies understand that children are whole complete human beings whose existence cannot be used as a coping mechanism for their fathers' anxieties? (no)

If Canada's (non-existent) Feminist Foreign Policy is dead, then what happens to its actual Feminist International Assistance Policy?

It's already under-funded, and the government is cutting another $2.7bn out of it
November 23, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Trudeau had a Schrodinger's Feminist Foreign Policy. There were rhetorical, normative and some funding wins, but because there was no written policy, it could be everything to everybody. It was very difficult to hold the govt to account for actual actions

People love to pretend like pastel QAnon and RFK and anti-vaxx moms are just a function of bored privilege and ignorance, but the reality is much more complex.

These anti-medical birth movements cross class and race lines and exploit very real gendered trauma from medical sexism related to birth.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence
