Great pelagic trip with Yorkshire Coast Nature today. 10 Minke Whales, rafts of Sooty Shearwaters by the boat and the big four Skuas. Brilliant! #ukbirds #yorkshirebirds #ornithology

I’m not arguing against licensing in general, or against all licences issued. Some are clearly needed. I fully support Jason’s efforts to get some proper transparency on this otherwise it could be abused, which seems to be what has happened.

I maintain that in my opinion it’s bizarre to licence eggs eaten as a luxury from an amber listed species. If this is culturally important (don’t see any evidence it is) then harvest eggs of species that aren’t declining. By definition this is unsustainable.

Two dragonflies are in the middle of mating and then, whoosh, a Hobby picks off and eats one of them on the wing. What a way to go. Filmed at Swilly Ings yesterday #birds #ukbirds #yorkshirebirds #ornithology vimeo.com/1112690951

Licensing the collection of eggs of an amber listed species so they can be eaten is in my opinion a pretty bizarre act for an agency supposedly tasked with protecting nature. The blog post observes there are still 2 licences for this even though this new data suggesting a new licence was erroneous.
