I played @doublefine.com's Keeper over the weekend and it's absolutely one of my favourites of the year.

The art direction and visual inventiveness is insane. Not unusual for Double Fine but man, they really cooked on this one.

Please vote for Keeper or whatever game moved you. It always means a lot to the teams.
Thank you! To anyone who loved playing Keeper, we'd be tickled if you thought of us when making your #SteamAwards nominations in these three categories:

👁️ Outstanding Visual Style
🎶 Best Soundtrack
😌 Sit Back and Relax

(And if you haven't played Keeper yet, we'd be thrilled if you did!)
#SteamAwards outstanding visual style has to go to @doublefine.com #Keeper, that's the majority of its thing.

Its friggin' beautiful in a way I hadn't experienced before.

This Morph-of-the-Week is the growable platform - one of our earliest production morphs. Starting with the awesome concept by @leepetty.bsky.social the states were modelled by Nick. Once captured I set up the scene-graph and animated the morph. @lanethan.bsky.social added the cool foliage and fruit.

I genuinely believe that Keeper is one of the game's industry most excellent and exciting achievements of the decade. A seemingly un-pitchable game that stands strong on its core tenets of emotional connection and teaching the player to let go of preconceived game notions. I thoroughly enjoyed it

When you make a game about a walking lighthouse, you sometimes get really cool gifts.

Have you watched "The Making of Keeper" yet?

Our newest documentary is available now, and it's a great journey through the game's development! Here's a clip of Lead Animator Zach Baharov talking about the challenge of bringing a lighthouse to life~

Sundays are for tripping balls.
We've played enough games with deep lore and over-indulgent storylines. Sometimes we need to just trip balls on some gorgeous visuals and vibes. It's a new playthrough of #Keeper! #streamersupport #youtube #lighthouse @leepetty.bsky.social @doublefine.com @xbox.com #bird #weird buff.ly/oPtWau0

I did a lot of lighting on Keeper and it was a joy to have a fully dynamic lighting system, which made shifts in areas like this easy to do. We also had custom Lumen-based lights that @p1xelcoder.bsky.social put together that helped us hit the painterly/stage lighting look we were after.

Clearly, we should be hosting a Keeper-themed karaoke party.

Behind this distance fields lies Oliver's madness, presented plain for all to see.
Normal polygonal meshes have a fixed topology. Roughly speaking this means the number of holes in an object can't change. Also the (explicit) surface of two meshes can't be blended smoothly into one. This is no problem for distance field morphs with implicit surfaces.

Games should constantly evolve. When shooting a red barrel it should fart instead of exploding, for example.
Somehow, despite all odds, after doing game VFX for 20 years this is the only fart fx I have done.
My advice is to add farting robot vacuum cleaners to your game.
