The wife and I went to see Jurassic Park at the cinema last night and good lord is that movie made for the big screen. *Completely* different from a home viewing; made me feel like a 10 year old again, seeing it for my birthday.

Increasingly feel like this will be AI's legacy: making people (not CEOs) realise the value of craft and working on something you enjoy. Not maximising profit.
the deluge of ai services promising to shortcut creativity and negate ever developing a skill has, conversely, given me impetus to sit down and learn stuff i've always put off. so far comedically dogshit in my efforts to develop a musical ear, but it's really gratifying(??) and i'm enjoying it(???)

An opinion I pretty firmly hold is that everyone should make a song, paint a painting, act in something, and write a book even if all of those things end up being objectively terrible

I've joined the ranks of my fellow penniless writers on Substack where my new anthology short story series 'Lord of the Manor' will be regularly published. First one is up today:

Every time I get depressed about AI being forced on us and the powers-that-be demanding human artistry be consigned to the bin, I go and look at the comments under a YouTube video of any song. You'll find an endless parade of heartfelt gratitude for music there. AI will never replace that.

It's #bandcampfriday and the world's ending. Why not listen to some angsty white boy sing songs while society crumbles?

In 2001, Channel 4 in the UK broadcast a special episode of Chris Morris' satirical current affairs show 'Brass Eye'. Subtitled 'Paedogeddon' it was an excoriating parody of the hysterical fear mongering the British media were indulging in at the time. Throughout the 90s Murdoch's outlets and (1/)

The amount of absolute garbage AI ads I'm getting force fed online is really starting to piss me off. Even @adobe.com is churning out trash. Why would you advertise a creative software with awful, AI-made junk? The sooner this bubble bursts the better.

I feel like there's very little room for discussion that isn't about the hell we're living in these days but I just want to highlight how hard they are pushing this Wuthering Heights movie. This either means A) the studio has a lot riding on it or B) It's a stinker. Or C) both.

It's amazing to see how poorly Bluesky understands its user base. Despite their best efforts, its us that have dictated the tone and tenor of discussion here. Thank goodness.
After a whirlwind 2025, we took a pause to reflect on what 2026 might bring, and how Bluesky can help build the sort of future we all want to see online. Check out a few of our predictions, and let us know if you agree: bsky.social/about/blog/0...
Bluesky in 2026: Predictions - Bluesky
As we head into 2026, we wanted to share a few predictions about what we think people will do online this year, with a taste of how we're building Bluesky to meet them there.

I'm disappointed by the overall lack of industry recognition Silksong got, mostly for its purported 'difficulty'. The discourse on difficulty has always been rather tin-eared imo so I wrote a thing about that.

Reddit is just the worst. I forget sometimes so go on, usually for a reason, never get an answer and am swiftly reminded why it sucks. It's like bizarro LinkedIn.

Continuing to use AI at this point is insane. On top of the environmental impacts, the outright misinformation it spreads, the IP theft and all the covering for and funding of fascism it does, it is giving people psychosis. Support for AI is lunacy:

It's taken me a long time to realize posting on the internet accomplishes nothing but feels like it does and ultimately allows some of the most evil people in history to continue what they're doing and avoid actual repercussions. 'Slacktivism' was always the right description.
