Most tools use averages, or normal values, that really represent nothing about the individual using them. Not too mention they might be measuring the least important things. Companies aren’t invested enough in changing their algorithms or tools
Agreed. Perhaps possibility of new idionomic approaches may help bridge the individual to group and group to individual friction. So much ground work to be laid to see. We’re doing our part 👷‍♂️👨‍💻

😃 A new article published in J Biomech by Crisco et al found that reporting thumb motion as CMC joint motion involves significant errors without a discernable pattern, making true CMC motion prediction impossible from thumb motion measurements.

If you work with movement, read this!
Human performance isn’t about optimizing parts. Rather, it is a continuous process of adaptation to ever-shifting constraints, both internal & external.

Movement science has a problem: the myth of optimality. Sneak peek from Madhur Mangalam’s describing 60+ conflicting “optimal” states during the act of hiking. More coming soon. #physio #physicaltherapy #movementscience #sportsmedicine #complexityscience #sportscience
Absolutely love this image. We have to think bigger than the #brain.

Since meaning (including Identity) derives from context, we have to take more than one viewpoint into consideration.

Even grammatically, we have to assign units to uncountable concepts, pointing to this paradox. Did those units exist before we created them?

What about the other direction? >
#multilevelselection in #pain - So much more for us to learn in the periphery and spinal cord!
An exciting one for #PainResearch 👇
How is the input of the different kinds of primary sensory neurons responding to heat and mechanical stimuli summarized in the spinal cord? Check out our recent study.

Some aspects are well predicted, others are extremely difficult.

Not sure who all needs to hear this today but #complexityscience provides a little hope.
"When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order."

🧪 This study highlights why we should not focus so much on genetic factors or drug targets. The #exposome (environmental exposures) has greater impact on disease patterns and premature mortality than genetic factors. www.nature.com/articles/s41... #planetaryhealth #academicsky #medsky #idsky
“Without that noise aspect, the model would fail,” Lynn said. “It wouldn’t produce anything that worked, which was surprising to us. It turns out you actually need to balance the Hebbian snowball effect with the randomness to get everything to look like real brains.”

Emergent properties reveal how the brain transforms countless neural sparks into unified thoughts and emotions.

The same process drives creativity, where diverse ideas combine into something greater than the sum of their parts.
