Great to catch up with ‘the boss’ today.

Ed’s always been a real champion for local councils, and it was good to reaffirm just how vital it is that our parliamentarians keep banging the drum for the sector when it feels like there is crisis all around.

The LGA have called on the Government to urgently work together on the details of the High Value Council Tax Surcharge to address practical concerns about how it would work and to avoid unintended consequences on any future council tax reform.

Earlier this year ALL Southwark’s Labour councillors voted to keep the benefit cap.

In 2023, Liberal Democrat run Mole Valley District Council embarked on an ambitious journey to reshape its customer service and digital capabilities.

During 2023/24, the council achieved £691,000 in savings. In 2024/25, savings reached £1.91 million.

I am very concerned by the news that councils across the country that are due to have elections next year have received letters asking them whether they would consider cancelling them.

I asked the Secretary of State for the content of those letters and assurances that elections will go ahead.

The new mayoralties in Greater Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, Hampshire and the Solent, and Sussex and Brighton were due to be contested in May next year but will elections will instead be in 2028.
