NEW: ALA salutes Dr Carla Hayden for her exceptional service to the nation as the Librarian of Congress. We are deeply disappointed in Dr Hayden's abrupt & unjust dismissal last night, an insult to the scope & breadth of her work.

NEW: ALA is going to court to stop the President’s attempts to illegally dismantle the Institute of Museum & Library Services.

The President does not have the authority to destroy a federal agency. That's why we're taking action with our co-plaintiff @afscme.bsky.social. #ForOurLibraries (1/3)
We're suing Trump to save library funding. Show up for our libraries, American Library Association.

Right-wing censors are now "quiet banning" books that they can't removed legally.

Librarians in Chicago have been finding books dealing with race, LGBTQ+ issues or Islam hidden under shelves, in trash cans or otherwise "disappeared."

Lake County library leaders expect to see more challenged books
A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, according to the American Library Association. Challenges lead to censorship.

Support local libraries. We’re witnessing censorship on a massive scale. Digital scrubbing is modern day equivalent of book burning

Our ability to get accurate info about public health, science, history, LGBTQ & marginalized groups is under threat

Libraries will be critical part of the resistance

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination.
Our response: Book bans are real.
