Hoping this happens in NJ. We need the same in CA, the worst state in the U.S. in terms of school librarians in schools 50/50.

What is wrong with Tennessee?
"The Tennessee Association of School Libraries found in a survey of its members that in 20% of school districts, books were removed from the shelves at the command of district leaders without any sort of review process."
How profoundly sad. The kids deprived of reading Calvin and Hobbes are the kids who need them the most. My brother put it best: "We know we’re fucked when they come for your cartoon stuffed tigers."

Let's go sit in the grass and crack open "The Days are Just Packed."

This is great news!
“[Oregon’s] new law prohibits removing and banning books from school libraries for reasons exclusively based on the fact that their content includes a protected class.”
Bill prohibiting book bans in Oregon school libraries becomes law • Oregon ArtsWatch
Senate Bill 1098, signed this week by Gov. Tina Kotek, is based in Oregon’s discrimination law related to protected classes.

It was such an honor to host the great Grace Lin at the Aptos MS library. Her new book is fabulous.

Help! Act now!
Please call your members of Congress right away, and ask them to sign their colleagues' "Dear Appropriator” letters. These letters close in just a few days, so now is the time to act #ForOurLibraries.

I knew they would come for Carla who is our first librarian(not business person) in this important role. Congress- stop this firing!
“Carla,” read the email. “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective immediately.”

Carla Hayden is first woman and first African American to hold the position.

This is, in large part, pandemic revenge.

As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do.

They can't keep spewing carbon.

They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying.

They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

Good news from Colorado: A U.S. District Judge ordered a school district to restore library books they banned by next week, prohibiting the district from further restrictions on access to books that the school board objects to politically.

If the Serbians, Romanians,Hungarians,Italians can get into the streets to object to authoritarian regimes, it is our duty to join them
For those folks who have been waiting to climb the pole and ring the “constitutional crisis” bell, it would appear we have arrived. Neither Judge Sorokin nor Judge Boasberg believed that he was signing a meaningless order, and both judges demanded compliance that never came.
We’ve Officially Entered the Next Phase of Trump’s Dictatorship Era
Taken together, these actions and declarations amount to a significant escalation in Trump’s transformation of his own presidency into an autocracy.

Fascism is here and doesn’t play! Well, start activating defense of our libraries. Go!
In my state IMLS funds are used to purchase statewide access to subscription library databases. These resources are vital for research and learning. Public and school libraries cannot afford them on their own. This will hurt students and public library users across the state.
