He/Him, grew up small town, grown up big city. Educated in theology and politics, which explains why he's really quiet in person. Checks most of the boxes for a progressive with far left sympathies.

Striving to be kind. Mostly succeeding.

While I agree we'll need to scrub the government of fascist influence & Trump's wild lawlessness, we must not allow a future administration to act on this by fiat lest we end up right back here the next time fascists gain power. If we want a system that rejects fascist dictators, let's act like it.
Mass pardons are coming. There will be no accountability without treating those as null and void. And that means a future administration taking an official position that Trump is not the legitimate president right now because he is disqualified by the 14th Amendment. The two things are inextricable.

I deeply believe that many of our current problems branch off from ignoring the trauma the pandemic has done to us.
Funny what happens when a society tries to memory hole a pandemic and everyone gets burnout, instead of treating it as a mass trauma event.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

This is a good thing from Bohacek. But can we please NOT repeat the slur Trump used as we comment on it ffs?

Why is WV so poor? Well, part of it is that the corporations got good at economic extraction, keeping miners in debt peonage with scrip into the 1950s. Tough to build long term economic security when you have to buy from the company store. Even today, a third of Clay County students are homeless.
And a piece of Coal Scrip.

This piece if brass scrip was minted for J.W. Hanson & Son in 1951. In Queen Shoals, W.VA. This was for a mine community in Clay Co. Only a little east of Clendenin, WV.

It's weird seeing people get touchy about this post. Someone quoted it with "this is a minority opinion" when she literally starts with "I don't know if anyone else notices or cares".
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Boomer drama.

It is interesting. I really loved the guy in high school and college. As I get older, the image has tarnished a lot as I've found other songwriters.

On the other hand, he's a performer. All popular musicians are. "Authenticity is a racket," and he's a case study in that.
Exploring Joni Mitchell's feud with Bob Dylan
Of all the feuds in music, Joni Mitchell’s battle with Bob Dylan is the most peculiar. Things have certainly soured between two folk stars since the early day.

What makes me very sad is that absolutely nothing about this crime was necessary. The war in Afghanistan wasn't necessary. And the stationing of the National Guard in DC wasn't necessary.

Dammit. It's no excuse, but it does explain a lot.

And it's an important adult lesson that often there's a reason people do evil things. I think it's important to fully understand what happened and make a reckoning. That doesn't make it ok, nor does it provide justification. We could do better.
