California just confirmed a new wolf pack in Plumas County—the Grizzly Pack. A hopeful sign after last month’s lethal removal of the Beyem Seyo Pack. Wolves are rebounding, but Congress is still pushing anti-wolf bills. Demand a National Recovery Plan at TeamWolf.Org!

Taxes are good! Taxes are how we pay for all of the things that make society a good place to live!

People who don't like taxes are selfish and stupid and make our entire society worse for their own short term, often barely noticeable gain.

This year, I worked with some of the best editors in science and nature writing. Everything I wrote was better because of them.

@lkbotts.bsky.social for Sierra
@joespring.bsky.social for Smithsonian
@saraivry.bsky.social for JSTOR
Chuck Thompson for @columbiainsight.bsky.social
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

My latest labor of editing love is this stunner by @christianelliott.me about herbicide drift, a silent ecological crisis ravaging the remaining native hardwood trees of the U.S. Midwest.

Sadly I did not get to use my preferred hed, The Fast and the Furious: Midwest Drift
For @biographic.bsky.social, I reported from across rural Illinois on an environmental crisis unfolding in the Midwest: herbicides drifting off millions of acres of crop fields are slowly killing oaks and other native tree species. #longreads

President Donald Trump has made it his mission to banish offshore wind farms from America.
It is, of course, a stupid policy. New reports show that the president’s move works against grid reliability. www.canarymedia.com/articles/off...

A sector despised by President Trump can boost grid reliability on the East Coast when people crank up the heat and gas plants are tested by extreme…

If you think of DC politics as a swamp, then this guy is covered in slim. There are no barriers btwn him and the oil and gas industry. Yet, this is who will likely lead the nation's largest public land agency.

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

The Trump admin says CO can't get wolves from Canada bc of their ESA status. Instead, CO must get them from US Rocky Mountain states, most of which have declined to participate in reintroduction. The move effectively cancels the program. But does this mean if wolves are delisted, all bets are off? 🌎
