Retired rhetoric/comp, active poet, just plain nosey about everything, thus the poetry.
It’s a sunny Caturday.

Tottenham vs. West Ham this morning. Currently 1-0 West Ham with Ben Davies taken off the field with what looks like a broken leg, but hard to say how this will turn out. #tryingoutoptimism

I must say, it’s very satisfying to have poems in play again. I won’t say where, but if I get an acceptance, I’ll let you know I have GPN (good poetry news). When it goes live (print or online), I’ll tell what and where. Huzzah!

I’m sending out poems again after a long post-pandemic hiatus and was sad to see that Menacing Hedge closed January 2023. They were a special kind of weird and I will miss them.

Yes, this should turn out well. Perhaps FIFA needs to consider the term objectification a little more closely, even read a bit of Judith Butler. So many ways this is a bad idea.
"According to Fifa, every player will be scanned before the World Cup to create a 3D model. It said each scan would ... capture “highly accurate body-part dimensions”.

Commentators discussing specific body part dimensions is in our future. How exciting.

Yes, I’m going to watch the Liverpool vs Tottenham game. Why, I’m not sure. Overweening optimism? There must be a reason.

A painful first goal for Nottingham. Too easy.

Nottingham Forest vs. Spurs. Surely Spurs will win.

Watched Arsenal vs Spurs. With a historic hat trick and truly inspired play, Eze was definitely worth the 91 mil. Too bad he’s wearing the wrong shirt.

Any way you approach it, there are hard times ahead for the teaching of writing. Recognizing its value for critical thinking and new knowledge generation will be the key. How to do that is the question. AI appeals because it promises relief from “make work.” Creative work is not make work.

Found through @jsanofranchini.bsky.social I especially liked the killjoy idea that happiness isn’t always the ultimate goal. Doing your own writing isn’t always pleasant, but it is rewarding in long-lasting ways.

This totally gets what it’s like. I hope those who aren’t writers tryin to juggle these roles don’t see this as whining. It is so not.
