As someone who has spent over 35 years trying to explain that violence is inherent to policing only to have most people be OK with this, I could be excused if I decided to just give up. But I'm not. I knew we would be where we are today. I still think that we do not have to live like this.

Spoiler alert: this kind of discretion is the bedrock of *all* policing
This is an airtight permission structure for violence because ‘provocation’ means whatever they say it means.

An independent autopsy of Renee Good reveals that she had 3 gunshot wounds: to the left arm, right lung, and left temple that exited the right side of her head. That means the third shot, the most unlawful one, from the side, likely killed her. abc7.com/post/minneap...

The results of an independent autopsy for Renee Good have been released as part of a law firm's civil investigation, two weeks after she was shot and killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis.

Maybe we can still debate when the terminal crisis of US imperial hegemony began, but we are now very much in it, uh, this week. Who is ready for a new systemic cycle of accumulation? 😬

Exactly this. Corey Booker is a disgrace.
Corey Booker announcing his legislation to make ICE wear body cameras a week after the entire Republican Party excused an ICE officer murdering somebody by showing the video the officer took with his own cell phone of him murdering them is a testament to how stupid Democrats think all of us are.

Black folks and immigrants have long lived in a "perogative state" when it comes to law enforcement, and maybe pundits at the largest national outlets should recognize that their past support for punitive policing and immigration enforcement laid the groundwork for the current moment.

Jonathan Ross was a firearms trainer and led a team that included multiple federal agencies. All this training didn't stop him from shooting Renee Nicole Good. His training *facilitated* the shooting.

No amount of training will solve the problem that ICE is a violent ethnic cleansing squad.
Democrats are simultaneously beginning to refer to ICE and CBP agents as "poorly trained."

This message comes from leadership. They're trying to use it as a substitute for dismantling ICE and CBP and imprisoning their current employees. Don't fall for it; don't take any Dem seriously who uses it.

As I was saying last night at the AHA, there is a right-wing history to this rejection of multilateralism - it’s the culmination of a long movement of ‘the United States in Opposition’

It’s incumbent on elected Democrats to outline a plan that drastically reorganizes DHS, ICE and CBP with discipline imposed not just by regs but by budget and liability exposure. Literally the job of an opposition party. The “enhanced trainings” response reflexively mouthed by some Dems is a joke

ICE shot a man in Glen Burnie and the story they told was contradicted by:

1. ICE’s own photos
2. Bystander video
3. Lawyer for another immigrant at the scene
4. Anne Arundel County Police

Now ICE is revising its story.

It’s imperative that all members at the #AHA26 come to the business meeting tonight at 5:15 in the Hilton Continental Ballroom to exercise our democratic rights as AHA members
The scholasticide continues, and @historians.org won’t even listen to its membership and bring it up for discussion at our upcoming meeting. Shameful.

That’s been a big demand of local officials & activists, for years — and more officials were elected on that platform this fall.
