This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

This episode had so much helpful advice about book promotion. A few bits I would add from my recent experience: 1. Pay attention to what other authors do and take notes! I've been copying what I saw my friends doing!

Relevant for Latin America, too ⬇️
In a speech to the World Economic Forum, Mark Carney says middle powers such as Canada must accept that the rules-based international order is effectively dead, and great power rivalry with is here to stay. Key excerpt:

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Love seeing this example of resistance at the same time that my heart hurts for the kid in the background trying to understand what's going on and his parents trying to explain + document + protect their kid

A great illustration of how even in the Trump era of personalist rule, the federal contracting supply chain remains a critical method for cultivating a broad base of political support and maintaining patronage networks. (Note how many of these businesses have the word “veteran” in their name, too.)

Images are the biggest surprise headache in book publishing. I had to just give up on some in my recent book.
Nobody warned me that I would spend so much sabbatical time on figuring out both technical and legal questions for images in my book. (it's really the technical question that are sending me over the edge)

I don't know either.
A teenage boy was walking home in Minneapolis yesterday when four masked men jumped out of a van & questioned him - with no parent or guardian present.

He was bundled into the van & taken away.

Bystanders heard the boy say: “Can I just go home?”

I don’t know how America comes back from all this.
