I’m so beyond excited to share that This Guy Sucked was selected by Apple Podcasts as one of their top ten best new shows of 2025! How wild is that?!

The problem! Is that! There are no jobs! For anybody!!!! So then the jobs that do exist hire people who can teach things they *don’t already have someone to teach* which often means things like race, which have been long-term blind spots in these departments! Use your brain!
This is 100% incorrect as the explanation for why someone obsessed with Roman *military* history is not being hired.

Stealing homes from people who are kidnapped by the state is 1) heinous and 2) not an actual housing policy
Vance: "Why have rents gone down for 4 consecutive months? Because we're starting to get those illegal aliens out of the USA. Those criminals, those gang members, those people that are taking homes that ought by right go the people in this room. It's simple economics."

SO I curated a playlist for Pocket Cast this year - themed around "academic experts making their research accessible" - and it turns out that it was their #1 most-listened-to list of the year? What the hell! How cool!

As a person who has been studying extreme far right ideologies for the last decade (and did a PhD on immigration) I find the entrance of “remigration” into the mainstream American political lexicon so profoundly disturbing

An important thing to do to prevent brainrot is force yourself to interact with bits of non-attention-economy-driven culture regularly -- I recently added a Chrome extension that sets a different painting from the NGA as the background every time I open a new tab.

It's delightful!

I can, indeed, confirm. There are, in fact, several episodes where people Archie dislikes pass away and even then he's capable of compassion.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

This episode has had such a positive response, and I just want to say for the millionth time how truly grateful I am that people listen to my show and that scholars are willing to have these (sometimes funny, often difficult) conversations with me.
NEW TGS EPISODE: My wonderful colleague Marlene Daut reminds us that Napoleon sucked *so* much more than people are willing to remember. I’m particularly proud of this one and would love if you gave it a listen.
