Most (wise) publishing advice out there: Don't make your 'baby', the novel you have the strongest attachment to, be your debut novel. Save it for later when you the experience.

My brain: okay but what if we write this novel first. What if all the plot and drive I give you is for THIS one. Your baby

If you dream it, you can do it.
Make an enchanted crown of antlers & bones.
Haunt the darkness on the ragged edge of town.
Unfurl your great black wings, take flight across the forest, and teach the night your name.

Daily bunny no.3105 needs to ask nicely
Two bunnies stand at the foot of an old brick wall, in a forest somewhere. There is a small door in the wall, the only way through. At the top of the wall are four blackbirds, one of which has the key in its beak. The bunnies implore the bird for the key

Daily bunny no.3104 does not have a map
An intrepid bunny creeps through a labyrinth or dungeon, arranged in a grid like an old videogame. There is a snake and a skull in the bunny's path, as well as a spike pit. The bunny has a small sword.

This is a photo of a paperback copy of The Atrocities by me (Jeremy C. Shipp). The cover features a creepy old manor house, storm clouds, and a hedge maze. The book is against a brick wall with vines growing around and over the book.

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

My writing may be slow (roughly 100 words a day these past couple of months) but given that I have been unable to write for years due to chronic illness (an illness which is still ongoing), I'm very glad to just be writing something again, no matter how small.
It's a joy to be able to write again

When There Are Wolves Again is out in the UK today! I wrote something about the book, and keeping going, and some personal stuff I dithered over but, well, it's been A Year.

I'm so glad the book is out there and thank you so much to everyone who has supported it 🐺🤍

A black cat sits on a wicker basket reading the book PHYSICS FOR CATS by Tom Gauld... Ok, so she's not really reading it. She's not even quite looking at it to be completely honest. But it is possible to imagine that she is reading and thoroughly enjoying it.

When you get that new idea for a story, write it down. As soon as possible. Because you will forget it. No, no don't listen to that little voice that says you'll write it down later. That you won't forget. That little voice is a mischievous liar.
