I have vivid memories of going to see the full quilt display for the last time at the National Mall in 1996 (before it got too big). Even as the sort of teenager who spent real time letting the Vietnam Memorial and Arlington Cemetery soak in, the quilt was just overwhelming. Profoundly changed me.

NYT needed four different white dudes on the byline to transcribe all this administration lying.
NYT:
Five officials told us that Hegseth had nothing to do with the second strike

Washpost (which broke the story 2 days ago):
“This is ‘protect Pete’ bullshit,”
and
“It’s throwing us, the service members, under the bus.”

"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case."

This is a flat-out 100% lie from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and he knows it. Impeachment resolutions are privileged, they can force a vote at any time.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Would rather like someone to ask Jeffries whether this would be his answer if Hegseth had personally directed the murder if two American citizens from his district, or even a member of his caucus. If so, why is he here? If not, why are certain illegal killings disqualifying but not others?

Somewhat ironically given this administration, the requirement for sports teams is rooted in making sure there’s no corruption, specifically with gambling.

In addition, one of the clearest instances I can remember of “every accusation is actually a confession.”

Can’t imagine anyone in the White House actually benefits from going down this road if the rule of law manages to hold even a little bit
It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.

Hundreds of elected Dems who have artfully declared solidarity with those who spoke out about not obeying illegal orders without actually saying the thing themselves. Wonder if any will manage to now? Or just more rhetorical dancing and fundraising?

the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.

Understand that Schumer, Jeffries, and the architects of their strategy see this as validation of staying out of his way instead of resisting or actually blocking harms. Their response will be to do even less, rather than to use the advantage to actually save people from having their lives destroyed

Adjacent to this, I feel like there should be a gigantic conversation about anti-SLAPP and similar rules and penalties around basically everything this entire administration has been doing.
$937,989.39: That's the amount of the penalty owed by Trump and Alina Habba, according to a new appeals court decision, which upheld a 2023 ruling that Trump and Habba committed "sanctionable conduct" by filing a "frivolous" lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and James Comey.

Many millions of people are going to die because the self-annointed 'Peace President' is actually just a Strongman Appeaser President

(and because his mind is so debilitated he can't even comprehend the difference)

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.
