The more senior you become in your career the more you are invited to write reference letters for promotion of others.These take a lot of time but it always makes me happy when I see many deserving ppl being promoted (esp underserved gps). This wk news of another success & just submitted another 😊 🤞🏻

In this month's #PreprintWatch we’re diving into studies using less explored animal models and exciting technologies pushing the boundaries of advanced cell culture. And don't miss the video chat with Christiana Georgiou from the Lo Celso Lab www.simplyblood.org

That was a great chat, Christiana really nailed it! Have a look, her work is an absolute must, and a really original approach to long-standing questions on HSCs division

Adding on to these data on chances of success in having successive NHMRC Investigator Grants funded, here are data showing the levels (EL2 & above) & the % of recipients who were previously funded, either at earlier levels (eg EL1 applying for EL2) or at the same level (eg L3 being renewed). 👇🏻
Shows the proportions of 2024 and 2025 NHMRC Investigator Grants that went to a previous recipient in the scheme in each of the 4 disciplines and for men and women (data for non-binary people not available).
louisepurton.bsky.social
All 4 disciplines shown for both 2024 and 2025 outcomes and for men and women separately. No data for non-binary people available.
EL2 = emerging leader 2
L1 = Leadership 1
L2 = Leadership 2
L3 = Leadership 3

No data for EL1 because you cannot reapply for EL1.
Good luck to those applying!

If an 🇦🇺 #biomed researcher, 🙏 consider 📝 this letter to #NHMRC advocating for ⬆️ flexibility around part-time work with #investigatorgrants. This will go some way to reducing barriers encountered by those who work part-time, incl. women of young children #womeninSTEM docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Finally got around to doing some analysis on what reapplying #NHMRC investigator grant holders* are having on the scheme.
L2/L3 heavily impacted, with ~70% of the 2025 round going to previous winners.

Food for thought for 1st timers trying to get in

*dependent on identical names across rounds.
