2016 was quite a transition year, so I thought I'd look back. Career-wise, life-wise. World politics wise, too, of course. Here's a glimpse of my life 10 years ago. Gotta say, I'm tempted to dye my hair pink again after walking down memory lane.

I'd agree with this! I tend to call it "cosy-adjacent." There are cosy elements, but also has some bite. The older versions were a bit darker, but I softened certain elements this time around. The series as a whole does trend towards hope, I'd say.

Please, never be shy telling an author you loved their books.

It’s seriously what gets us through.

Just re-upping this for my Scottish pals.
SCOTTISH FRIENDS! As part of the release of MORTEDANT'S PERIL in May I'll be popping up to Edinburgh to see the lovely people at @toppingsbath.bsky.social* and YOU can come see me too! AND GET A BOOK! Amazing.

I've gotten so many more responses than I thought I would--thanks so much, everyone! I'll be collecting for a few more days, then I'll liaise with my publisher and then start reaching out to people directly once I know what I can offer.
Internet, I ask for your help: can you share your favourite UK-based bookish bloggers/influencers who might be interested in reading a book about an intersex, bisexual protagonist set in a magic circus? Think The Night Circus set in a gaslight fantasy world.

Goldilocks by @lrlam.bsky.social focuses on four female astronauts who steal an interstellar spaceship in pursuit of an exoplanet that can sustain a new civilization, as society on a dying Earth becomes increasingly oppressive toward women. Loved the hard sci-fi elements and social commentary.

This week, on Paired Reads . . .

Still catching up on books I read last year, we have The Tarot Reader of Versailles by my beloved @anyabergmanwriter, a historical fiction with a dash of magic set during the French Revolution, and Most Ardently, a trans retelling of P&P by @thegabecole.

Here's a snippet of my corkboard in my office with my tentative 2026 goals! A few things are up in the air, hence the question marks. At the bottom of the corkboard are my mantras:

- Have fun
- It's okay to say no
- Give fewer f*cks
- Average is not failure
- Failure is temporary (as is success)

It's 2026, and I'm coming back to Paired Reads.

First up, I read all three of the Emily Wilde books by Heather Fawcett last year & adored them. This series pairs perfectly with A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan.

What other books or series are similar to these two that you'd recommend?

Hello! The other day I mentioned my newsletter (l!nk in b!o).

I also have a completely optional Patreon. I update it about once a week, and it's where I go more behind the scenes into my process, my progress, and my personal and creative life.

In 2026, I'll still be lightly on social media, but I'm prioritising being regular with my n3wsletter and my Patr3on. First n3wsletter is going out this week, and you can get a free F/F romance short story for signing up!

Hello hello, I'm not quite back on socials yet, but I'd be remiss not to mention the @barnesandnoble pre-order sale. Masquerade, the third book in the Micah Grey trilogy, is eligible, and I believe Emberclaw's paperback, the sequel to Dragonfall, also applies.

I'm taking the rest of the year off social media to sink my teeth into drafting my next project, and to rest and relax. I'm wintering. I might send another newsletter, and I'll still be updating Patreon, but otherwise, I'll see you next year!

It's been three months of tracking time + output on Pacemaker. Interestingly, without really trying, I worked almost exactly the same number of hours each month, though output varied depending on what was going on.

SHADOWPLAY, the sequel to the award-winning PANTOMIME, is out now. Here are some nice things people are saying about it.

The Micah Grey trilogy is a whimsical gaslamp queer fantasy with found family. Escape into the circus or step onto the magician's stage. 🎪 🔮 🪄 🎩 ✨

Howdy! @kingdomofthreads have let me know there's a Black Friday sale on for all their merch, including the Dragonfall goodies! 30% off until Dec 1st. I really love what they cooked up & that they hired long-time reader/fan artist @layahimalaya to bring Arcady, Everen, Sorin, and Jaculus to life!

I'm being much more consistent with my Patreon, so a reminder if you want more behind-the-scenes glimpses of what I'm up to, adventures around Scotland, and the general writing life, it's a thing I have!

Emberclaw, Shadowplay, and Masquerade all have lil recaps at the start to remind the reader what happened in the previous volume. As someone with the memory of a goldfish, I figured it might be appreciated by others, too!
Finished Pullman’s The Rose Field last night, the conclusion to The Book of Dust. Which means today, I can move on to @lrlam.bsky.social’s Shadowplay 2025 edition :D i very much appreciate the recap of Pantomime at the start!

I'm finally watching Broadchurch and damn, this cast is stacked. I knew about Olivia Coleman and David Tennant, of course, but Jonathan Bailey and Jacob Anderson were surprises.
