The Empty Gesture Of Giving Someone Your Nobel
There was rather a lot of fuss made on Thursday about Maria Machado supposedly giving Trump her Nobel Peace Prize, but I don't know that much of this fuss was warranted because it was rather obvious what some of the potential reasons would have been. We should dispense with one thing first - that wouldn't make the prize his. The Nobel Committee has said repeatedly, and it is right in the published guides, that only they can give these out, that they select who gets them, and that it has been won by that person for all time regardless of what happens to the medal itself.

The worst part about the fact that no one in the Trump administration understanding even the rudiments of economics is that they don't understand that this is basically Trump saying he will personally kick himself and America in the testicles until he gets Greenland.

The DOJ is no longer legitimate on any level. It’s just a goon squad. This has enormous implications for the country long after Trump is gone.
