I couldn't figure out eloquent language to describe digital agents that assist with web navigation tasks, so I just wrote "click click" and if I keep this up maybe I will start referring to language generation as "word word"

NeurIPS reviewers typically review 6+ papers, each with 100 or so citations. The reviewers can't possibly check that every citation is real. But why don't we have an automated way to do this checking (and desk-rejecting if fake citations found) *before* the papers are sent to reviewers?

I've often joked that as faculty I program in a high-level language called "graduate student". Having tried out Claude Code this morning, I (i) feel extremely at home, (ii) am realizing that research-by-graduate-student is perhaps the original vibe-coding. 1/2

In June 2024, X made its likes private. You can still like, authors can still see—but everyone else can’t.

So… does hiding likes change what people are willing to endorse?

Our new paper led by @yuweichuai.bsky.social: not very much!

Excited to teach two new courses this fall. The first is an upper-div undergrad course in the School of Information on Applied GenAI. Here, we're thinking about what we can do/build/analyze/design if we treat LLMs like a powerful black box library. jurgens.people.si.umich.edu/SI405/

If you want to research or even just learn for yourself about "Social Media, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, WhatsApp, or Twitter," then yes, unfortunately, it's almost impossible to do that research externally. This is a big reason why Bluesky's open ecosystem is so exciting to me!

Many think LLM-simulated participants can transform behavioral science. But there's been a lack of accessible discussion of what it means to validate LLMs for behavioral scientists. Under what conditions can we trust LLMs to learn about human parameters? Our paper maps the validation landscape.
