I briefly mentioned that I’ve started a PhD with Greenwich Uni where I’ll be looking at female gardeners and environmentalists in the long 19th century. Who are the best people to follow here into that topic? Any ideas? #history #victorian #19C #gardening #gardeners #environment 🌱

Would love to get a list of people's websites (suspect there will be more since I last asked) - so feel free to reply here with yours, and hopefully it will help everyone discover new academics!

I'm trying to build up my #PhD website (a slow process alongside everything else).

What do other people post about on theirs? If you have something you'd like me to write about on mine I'm happy to hear it too and will try and work it into my plans.

You’re so right! I struggle because I always feel like I’ve not done enough, so can’t quite “justify” taking a break.

But rest is so important to allow you to actually be productive when working that’s it’s a crucial part of the process. I’m just rubbish at it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It doesn't help with feeling tired, but in an attempt to try and feel a bit less 'I've done nothing, I'm so behind' I wrote a 'wrapped' type post looking back over my first year helped a little though I'm still largely panicked...

Does everyone feel like that? Is everyone else exhausted? Or are people good at taking time off??
lucybrewer.bsky.social
It's the start of #PhD year two, and I'm pretty tired. I don't know if everyone is like this but as a part-time person I don't feel like I ever get holidays from the PhD...do other people observe the academic timetable?

I just constantly feel like I'm not doing enough, and that I'm behind #PhDChat

Oh I can imagine that being a very relaxing listen
lucybrewer.bsky.social
I've also started a page that will list out the various books or products I might mention...there's currently only two things on there, but might be helpful at some point? 📚✒️ #PhD

That’s a tough ask because they typically need a period of cold. Kind of depends where you are but you could try looking at the Wambugu Apple, which was developed in Kenya.

I have two. One of the trees is kind of sad but had three gorgeous look big red apples this year. I came out last weekend to find every one stolen (one discarded in the middle of the lawn half eaten) 😩

Waited a whole year since the last crumble, and after squirrels took some snacks I ended up with 6 apples and 1 delicious crumble. 🌱🍎🍏 #growyourown

As a PhD student at Greenwich it wasn’t great comms to get the email informing us well after finishing the BBC article.

Suspect this will create an interesting environment in terms of stability with supervisors over the next few years particularly given the redundancies that just happened…

I had t heard of that story before but just had a quick mooch - you can definitely see the links to 🧛🏼‍♀️ can’t you!

@madelinepotter.bsky.social as my favourite 19th Century Vampire lover - any chance you know anything?
lucybrewer.bsky.social
Doing a side quest piece of research that's nothing to do with the #PhD (thanks ADHD) but hitting a block. Does anyone know of vampire related activity/stories/folklore etc. in Whitby pre. Dracula? #history #nineteenthcentury #vampires

After months of working on it, phase one of my transcription project is done! Whoever said doing a #PhD wasn’t full of glamour? #history #phdsky
Spreadsheet that says Total 806, Done 806, Percentage done 100.00%. It’s set against a yellow background.

806 entries DONE! Though the next step involves going back through every single one and creating a tidied up analysis version...wish me luck!
Table that shows Total - 806, Done - 806, Percentage Done - 100%

THE FINAL PAGE: Average age 30. My fave name here has to be Agatha who gives an intriguing address of 'The New Victorian Club' in Piccadilly. We also have Gladys, born in India to a dad in the Indian Army.

ONLY ONE PAGE TO GO!

Page 2: Nothing super exciting from this page that I spotted. Average age 29 (looking forward to seeing the overall average from all entries when I'm done). The women here are from all over England (I'm also looking forward to trying to map everyone). My top job here? Assayer to the Bank of England

Amazing! And that's actually her too! Thanks <3

Page 3: The whole page joined on 15 September 1910 (though only 4 of the 11 have even the month they left, so who knows how long they stayed). I've got back to back Hilda's and back to back 'Clerk in Holy Orders' dads. Plus two govt people - one in Germany, and a Consul General for Bolivia.
