My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

The responses to this are an utter joy and a suitably British mix of the serious, the mildly sarky and the just plain bizarre (prog rock??).

All is definitely not lost.
So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

Toilets became free (and are still clean) in a lot of major railway stations a few years ago

Police remain relatively untooled up after a lot of pushback a couple of decades ago (though other problems remain)
