The only thing I can compare the fun of vibe coding with is when Apple introduced HuperCard in 1987 😎

A really good post by my friend and former Travelocity CTO, @bobmatnyc.bsky.social … This is real. The question now is what does it mean to be a “HyperPM,” “HyperMarketer,” “HyperCEO…” or for those of us in .edu, “HyperTeacher?”

AI and the Rise of the Hyperdev
A few weeks ago, I had an eye-opening conversation with a staff engineer at Google. He told me that AI-powered coding tools—along with AI-driven design, unit testing, and documentation assistants—had ...

I think the biggest takeaway from DeepSeek R1 is what Ali Ghodsi says: “Everyone’s model is open source, they just don’t know it yet”

Just brilliant (pun intended!) For those who remember the original Pixar CGI short film, and are aware of the lineage that runs through Apple, LucasFilms, Pixar, and Disney, this makes so much sense.
Apple gets it. Robots are going to be everywhere, but they won’t look like robots. Check out their new paper ELEGNT.

I believe this is the future of everyday objects: helpful and human.

It is interesting that, despite the triumphant tone and the theme of American exceptionalism, the technorati in attendance, while we sit on the precipice of the most consequential technological advances in generations, Trump made zero mention of AI in his inaugural address.

While I for one share the concern expressed by the outgoing NSA, I find it puzzling that this red flag is only getting waved while walking out the door. Why wasn’t more attention drawn to this during the election campaign - let alone over the past 4 years?

Interesting juxtaposition in morning feed between (a) MAGA factions at odds over immigration (Elon/Vivek vs Loomer/Haley), and (b) new Chinese (DeepSeek) open LLM delivering GPT 4o-level performance with less training compute due to efficiency and innovation by talented Chinese engineers.
I’m very unsympathetic to the Chinese state’s lack of liberalism, but the focus on improving their populace through education rather than chasing capital in this interview reminds me of the values my family had growing up. (Excerpts from a long interview with Deepseek CEO Liang Wenfeng.)

While we’ll have to wait to test real-world performance, to put in perspective o3 performance announced by OpenAI today, GPT-4 (March 2023) got ~40% of AP calc right (GPT-3.5 = 0%). Now o3 performs better than humans on PhD-level science. Just incredible progress.

Google Gemini Advanced 1.5 is impressive, exhibiting sophisticated reasoning capability, agentic behavior, resourcefulness in mining the web for data, and background processing. So I thought I’d see how much better the new Gemini 2.0 Flash is.

The answer is… it’s hard to know.

For those old enough to remember the dialup bulletin board days this reminds me of when the hot BBS got too popular and we all flocked to the next. They all used the same software so it seemed strangely similar, but you just🤞the right crowd would find it too before the fomo set in 😳☎️
