I think there's also a difference between pirating a videogame that's been out of print for decades and pirating a book from an author who's selling the thing for two bucks on half a dozen different sites and treating that like some morally righteous thing. (+a big middle ground between extremes.)
people pirate most stuff when they're broke as shit and buy all they can when they're not, except for all the shit you can't see without piracy 'cause no one sells it. people pay when they have the cash and, increasingly, they have no cash. blame The End Of Mass Prosperity In The Imperial Core.
piracy discourse is so exhausting and passe, but i will observe that every truly great collector of physical media I know has a big harddrive of pirated books and movies. you literally cannot have one without the other

Things I like in the first couple hours of Lufia 1:
- the hero is surprisingly emotionally mature in his relationship with Lufia and you can see where he got it from: the old innkeeper who raised them spells emotions/motivations out for them and mediates when they fight, and is supportive of them.

Another very reasonable gaming thing I'm contemplating: make a catgirl (hrothgar or miqo'te) in FFXIV for the single purpose of properly learning how to fish.
Could I do this on my main character? Of course, nothing's stopping me! Would a thirty millionth fish-obsessed cat still be cute? Also yes.

Now that I've finished it, I think DQ11's greatest flaw is rolling credits after act 2 and calling the last third of its story "post-game."
Both act 2 and 3 have some weaker moments but together, I enjoyed them greatly and the entire party is so much fun.

You know what? I think act 3 might be my favourite part of Dragon Quest XI.
(For many reasons, but one small one is that the characters often have more interesting things to say in party chat now that they don't have to give you 284 variations of "go here to continue the plot" in every location.)

Notably, this is an international thing, too! My mum lives in a pretty small village in Germany and even here, there are several stores taking part. She's been kind of obsessed with her "surprise bags" from a nearby bakery. So it might be more worth checking if it's in your area than you think!
With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.

DQ2 is by far my favourite of the original Roto/Erdrick trilogy, so I'm happy to hear people speak so highly of its HD2D version. It'll be quite a while until I can get around to it (I'm in the middle of XI and would like to go back to III's remake first) but it sounds like it'll be a treat. :D

I see Time Stranger continues the Cybersleuth tradtion of making the same comments about your protagonist regardless of gender and making things a lot gayer if you play as the girl.
