this whole thing is genuinely maddening. a 20 year old nazi tattoo is not just disqualifying for running for senate, its disqualifying for being able to show your face in public. we are in a much worse situation than i thought if so many people are crawling out of the woodwork to defend this.

thinking my initial reaction to simply finding out he was a 3 time returning military vet and then became a literal fucking mercenary was also accurate. i really, really, really do not know why people so badly want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.

if i'm in say, a DSA meeting or at a protest, and someone "on our side" turns out to have a nazi tattoo, i want everyone there to kick them out of the space (to say the least). i don't want anyone going "but he was an UwU smol bean child murderer, he was misled!". this is a serious issue.

nothing is ever as clear cut in reality. but when it looks like a nazi (white, buff guy, nazi tattoo), acts like a nazi (military and mercenary history), but talks like a leftist, maybe we need to ask more questions and not give them the benefit of the doubt.

maybe its because i just watched Watchmen (2019), but seeing so many people fall for this bullshit is infuriating. this is why people say that you have to include race in your analysis, why you have to understand the history of race and white supremacy in this country.

As someone who grew up in a Navy town and lived around a Marine base, this is more normal than any of these people yapping online realize, to the point where most of these guys do in fact have no idea what these symbols mean. Especially in the 90s: that's how normalized it was.

its that but also i feel the same way for ex military in general. maybe slightly more sympathy for them. but joining the US military, voluntarily, is EXTREMELY SUSPICIOUS behavior and vets in our movement should be viewed with extreme caution and skepticism, basically forever.

Getting a Nazi tattoo isn’t any more a “military” thing than it is a “prison” thing. It’s a thing the Nazis do when they’re together. They do the same thing here when they’re not in state institutions.
