Destroying universities by starving them of funding & turning them into jobs programs for RW cranks who want to play professor is part of a sweeping effort to remake society as broligarchs imagine it should be: with them as super-humans & us as sub-humans. More:

lokman knows the culture of corruption is the legacy the British left the City: including the social unrest over the past decade. Most HKers didn't rise up in support of western liberal democracy, they stood up against an intensifying affordability crisis exacerbated by the city's own oligarchy.
International media, you can do better than this.

"Bamboo" is maybe exotic and a compelling hook but it is too easy. The real story here is the growing culture of corruption, including a lack of accountability and oversight, that enabled a chain of human errors that led to this disaster.

There have been a rash of attacks, and murders of Chinese nationals in Japan in recent years, swept under the rug. Some may know about the attitudes toward Koreans living in Japan; few see how they treat the over 1m Chinese living there. Indeed, they barely if ever even acknowledge they exist.

The common thread is not that these disgraced people had a profession, it's that they all belonged to an unaccountable elite. Adjunct lecturers have as much in common with Summers as beat reporters do with Nuzzi.
Sure, Nuzzi isn’t all journalists. Sure, Larry Summers isn’t all academics. Sure, Musk isn’t all CEOs. And also, if you don’t think their prominence & behavior tells us something about those professions & our National Conversation™️ in this authoritarian era, I don’t really know what to tell you.
you know, what if they aren't actually a commentary on journalism or the state of media. what if these people are just extremely weird

Someone in the replies claims China's clean energy development is only for export. This is false. China is installing more clean energy capacity than the rest of the world combined, while *also* exporting clean energy tech that's helping the rest of the world decarbonize.

In a sane world, the government guilty of committing genocide would be dismantled, and forced to pay reparations. Instead they are allowed to corral their victims into a concentration camp and steal their land. We live in the most obscene of all possible timelines.
