Been a question going around about films that have changed reputations over the years. Anyone remember when Talk to Her (2002) was considered a classic of world cinema? No way that's happening again

Works for a nightmare quest film like Beau is Afraid but in Eddington it's just clumsy as hell

PTA and Ari Aster both had movies this year about themselves feeling out of touch trying to grapple with Our Times, PTA succeeded because he actually likes people and understands struggle while Aster can only streamline conflict down to meaningless psychosis.

Watching American Dad! which may be the only show I've seen that truly captures what America is all about

Wishing a happy 101st Birthday to Ed Wood. Ghosts, transvestites, Bela Lugosi as God, what a strange, fascinating picture he gave us. Other than David Lynch, no other Hollywood-adjacent director had a better grasp on the surreal spaces underneath movies--even if Ed maybe only found them by accident.

We thought it was so funny when Homer choked Bart and they got away with it just because it was a cartoon but this picture shows that when it happens in real life it really isn't funny

I don't smoke cigarettes, but it's only because I don't have a good guide to which ones to smoke

They should make a 1001 Cigarette Brands To Smoke Before You Die book

Why is the Letterboxd plot synopsis for Little Man (2006) so long and poorly written
After leaving the prison, the dwarf criminal Calvin Sims joins to his moron brother Percy to steal an expensive huge diamond in a jewelry for the mobster Walken. They are chased by the police, and Calvin hides the stone in the purse of the executive Vanessa Edwards, whose husband Darryl Edwards wants to have a baby. Percy convinces Calvin to dress like a baby and be left in front of the Edwards's house to get inside the house and retrieve the diamond. Darryl and Vanessa keep Calvin for the weekend and decide to adopt him, while Walken threatens Darryl to get the stone back.

Watched a movie by the Tetsuo guy but it's not Tetsuo. It's just as good tho! Starts off like a noiry psychological thriller but then turns into something very strange and Lynchian (in the proper way that it feels like someone's dream broadcast live on screen). It's pretty incredible!
A Snake of June (2002)

It's not even good wordiness to me. He loves cliches and redundancy. It's just not fun to read. I don't get why people revere him that much!

There's a chapter in IT where he defends himself saying he doesn't write for pretentious academics but he also doesn't have the fun escapism and swift fast paced action of pulp fiction. His books aim squarely for the middle brow which is the least interesting brow!
