love when there’s a newspaper profile of some psychopath that points out they allow themselves “a lone vice, like a single cup of black coffee in the morning.” personally I am a bundle of trash glued together by vices. they’re all load-bearing

The aggregation of 22 separate federal agencies, most of which had nothing to do with each other, into DHS was the second most corrosive post-9/11 action taken (after the passing of the PATRIOT Act) and I will die on that hill
Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”
House Democrat Says Abolishing ICE Isn’t Enough — DHS Must Go, Too
“The problem isn’t ‘training.’ DHS was built to violate our rights,” said Rep. Delia C. Ramirez.

Update: she is sputtering mad that I called out her hypocrisy.

Imagine my dismay.
In law has been posting on social about "if you're doing it without ID you probably shouldn't be doing it," and she meant it Only In A Certain Way, so I replied that yes, absolutely, ICE agents should be wearing agency insignia, name tags and not hiding behind masks.

If you really care about accountability, I cannot imagine the kind of world you believe in if you think it only applies to individuals and not governmental entities.

Better things are possible, and if we keep pushing, we'll get to see this motherfucker getting perp-walked in a couple of years on his way to some well-earned justice for his many crimes
BREAKING Greg Bovino has been removed as Border Patrol "commander at large" and will return to El Centro Calif, where he is expected to retire soon. A stunning turnaround after Pretti killing. Bovino's traveling blue city crackdown is over www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

I think it is *incredibly* irresponsible for someone like @stonekettle.bsky.social, with a huge following, to claim that Signal is just as insecure as texts or other public social media.

This is a classic “making perfect the enemy of the good” error.

Wake up. Make breakfast. Do email. Watch a murder. Go to a party for a 5 year old. Laugh with my daughter. See a different angle of that murder. Hear govt officials slander the victim. Play Barbies with my kid. Feed her dinner. Tear up at that victim reading last honors to a vet. Put kid to bed. USA

I am doing pretty poorly but one thing that I know is that I will forever try to be the kind of ICU nurse who will stand up for my patients and my community, just like Alex did, and I implore everyone in healthcare to do the same

We did. Love you, #ICUNurses
Hey #Medsky and #Pulmsky, check on your ICU nurse friends. I am and will always be grateful for my time and training at a VAMC ICU. The nurses there were wonderful humans who helped a tired, sometimes struggling new doc through difficult shifts. Cheers to the #ICUNurses, we lost a great one today.

Alt Text Style Guide Tip #37:

when posting multiple photos of the same subject, you absolutely do not need to repeat your descriptions

for example, you're posting 4 photos of your tuxedo cat being a silly little guy.

do not repeat: "my tuxedo cat being a silly little guy" 4 times

The most consistent principle to surviving under Trump is that everything can be rolled back if the organizations involved can bother to fight it.

That is why the preemptive surrender from universities, corporations, the Democrats, and even national governments, is so galling. They don’t need to!

Sorry, MAWTS-1 = Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One

("One" as in, the one and only, the only one.)
My husband is flying (right seat, but in the left seat as you're looking at it), in this really cool and colorful shot of the Yuma desert in bloom. I think I vaguely recall it raining, that one time?

This was in 1993 when he was a MAWTS-1 instructor.
