I'm a slightly mad wife to Dave, mother of 2, grandparent of 6 and retired primary teacher, who loves to design, make and teach anything textile related, but particularly bobbin lace, crochet, free machine embroidery and hand embroidery.

Just finished this piece designed by Gil Dye. It’s a gift for my brother who was in the Royal Corps of Transport in the first Gulf War xx #bobbinlace. #rhinocerous. #lace

Loving this dragonfly. Pattern by Claire Bonito. Background leaves and bulrushes my design and work. Tension is key to Milanese lace xx #bobbinlace. #dragonfly. #lace
The first part of Kingfisher version 2 is complete. I didn’t like the first design. Much happier with this. Xx
July was such a whirlwind. We had the most amazing day at Villa Park for Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert, then Ozzy died😥 I honestly think this was one of the worst days ever. I first saw Sabbath in 1976 and am so glad we got to be there at the end. Xx 🖤
Recently finished work on this Etui (sewing box). Designed by me🥰
Started work a few weeks ago on this Bedfordshire Lace edging. It’s a pattern designed by the lovely Christine Springett. So far about 200 bobbins on the specially made (by my hubby and myself) 27” square pillow. Many more months of lacemaking to go before this comes off the pillow 😂😂

UK Prime Minister Starmer hugs Zelensky as he welcomes him to 10 Downing Street.

This is how you welcome the leader of the free world.

Designed & made a few yrs ago to represent my local wetland reserve. Free machine embroidery on watersoluble fabric. Layers of scrap yarn & thread, overstitched with rayon thread - with painted silk butterflies @womensartbluesky.bsky.social #freemachineembroidery #butterflies #flowers #watersoluble
I made this lampshade using the Ruskin Lace technique in linen thread on linen fabric- a mix of needle lace and hardanger style embroidery (cut & withdrawn thread), developed in The English Lake District. #Ruskinlace #embroidery #needlelace #lampshade #linen
First attempt at a hand stitched portrait. Loved this, thanks to Susie Vickery, who taught the workshop. #stitchedportrait #embroidery #collage
Machine stitch, hand stitch and collage on painted watercolour paper. Watercolour paint; Inktense and Brusho work really well for these. #watercolourpaper #Brusho #Inktense #collage #machineembroidery #mixedmedia #Fiberart #Fiberarts

This makes me sad for lace (bobbin lace is close to my heart) but also for relationships.
Online used to be/can be a place to build relationships and pass knowledge on.

And now... We're in these terrible times of infinite loop degradation through regurgitation. We lose knowledge and connections
This quote: "..I have been warning all of my students to avoid Amazon and buy from independent lace suppliers (a good practice for a multitude of reasons)"

Indie suppliers will vet books and patterns in a way Big Companies won't. Such an important point.

AI-Generated Book Grifters Threaten The Future of Lace-Making
“Unfortunately, for newcomers who might be excited to dive into this hobby, they could get burned by the inadequate books—and frankly the thievery—of the work of our cherished lacemakers and designers...

I did a 52 week challenge with the amazing Anne Brooke. We created a hanging in 52 blocks, using a different technique or stitch each week. #Hannemade2024
