The Immigrant Safety Act passed the Senate Judiciary Committee with a vote of 5-3! 🙌🏽 HB9 now moves to the Senate Floor for a final vote. This is a major win but the work isn't over.
📢 We need you to take action now. Call, email or visit your representative and tell them to support HB9! #nmleg

Recently I returned from a 10-day journey, a kind of pilgrimage to my roots in Southern California and to bring my mom and dad’s ashes closer to their longtime hometown, Pasadena. Here's the story...

News cycles are being manipulated to make people think a problem has been solved when it hasn’t. Bovino removed didn’t change anything but people have been tricked into thinking it did, so they move on. Same as it was.

Know this. The situation in MN is as bad as it’s always been. Don’t forget them.

Many of us have a long way to go to learn what real community organizing looks and feels like.
today's strike attempt feels slapdash and hashtaggy. last friday in the twin cities was organized from out of the communities over weeks of hard work and close connection. i hope today does some good but it's just not comparable.
I have some thoughts about people saying that they won't shop at small business who aren't participating in the "general strike" today. I say this as someone who loves shopping locally and small who is also not allowed to strike as a public employee.

Mainly: there is a lot of performative action.

Stephen Miller going down at the power of the labor movement would be one of the proudest moments I'd witness in my nearly 20 years in organized labor.

Let's get it done.

Stephen Miller exudes evil—hate, arrogance, racism, mendacity, cruelty, malice, sexism, and a servant and protector of rapists and pedophiles.

He is the one to go after.

He is one of the evil heads at the top.

Bovino is just a cosplayer, now patsy.

Bovino is not leaving Minneapolis cause he wants to. Not cause Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Vance or Trump want him to go.

He’s leaving because the extraordinary “ordinary” citizens of that great city - by peacefully protesting en masse - kicked him out.

Lesson to be learned. We have power.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
