Been a while since I did some photogrammetry based work & man was I rusty. No fancy Structured light/Photometry setup. Just n old Sony ILC-E6000 with its 16-50 kit lens in horrendous lighting conditions and everything else done by hand (cleaning/sculpting, materials creation etc).

The fact that the entire industry is now wasting time working on, integrating, analyzing, reviewing, and commenting on frame generation is so sad. Surely there are actually productive things we all can be doing instead.

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

Yeah I was fooled for a bit at first by the cool visualizations, but after reading it some more I would actively tell people to avoid this article because of the misinformation.

This is almost certainly LLM generated. It's not just a copy-edit either; some of the text seems semi accurate, some things seem like half-truths, and some is just nonsensical.

Maybe this helps someone understand the cache mechanics, but I'd rather see expert human written content on the subject.

Here's my top 9 for 2025. This has been a very difficult year both personally & for games / films as we saw even more job losses. But it's time to stop waiting for my future to find me, & it's time to make my own future. More to come soon. In the meantime, I wish everyone the very best end of year!

Have recently been obsessed with (again) optimizing my "low-mid size" bitonic GPU sorter even more than it was.

The current state summerized in the images below for a 7900 XTX for the red team and a 4090 for the green team.

For once the former handedly beats the latter across the board!

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

I got the first post about direct lighting material occlusion up on my blog. On this one I go over the commonly used micro-occlusion approach and its limitations, and I start digging into micro-shadowing as an improvement.

Over the past two months, I’ve been diving into the Essence morph tech we built for Keeper - how we got here, how it works and some neat-looking results. I’m really proud of this system (and the game in general), and I hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about it. :)
