I always reflect on how it wasn't till sophomore mechanics that I learned about the brachistochrone problem and now plenty of like seventh graders know about it bc of YouTube.
Isaac Newton learned of Jean Bernoulli's "brachistochrone" problem #OTD in 1697. He solved it late that evening, showing that the curve of fastest descent between two points is given by a portion of a cycloid.
