He/Him/His. Physics & Math teacher out in Western Mass. You'll also likely be subject to me regularly bringing up social justice-related things, music, and probably the Celtics. Oh and bread.

I always worry about putting too much on the next generation - the children will fight alongside us and we will continually learn from each other

THANK YOU for distinguishing between the two

Man my seniors are *really* anti-Ai. Like, hilariously so

See if we'd had NGSS standards when you were a kid, you'd know how to read a table properly 😉

Hmm, looks okay to me

I had some time to kill yesterday in between things. There was a record store nearby.

I am not a strong man.

Need this on a poster like yesterday. No AI art though, please

Before fun. there was The Format. Didn't think I'd be listening to a new song by The Format in 2025. This ain't that but it's today's #DailyTrack, a throwback

Would something like this extension work?

@jonathanmeiburg.bsky.social doing a caracara impression just brought me so much joy right now. What a good dude, go buy some @shearwaterband.bsky.social (and hey come back to Western Mass y'all ok?)

for free), as well as other curricula that is purchased (Jean Adams, stuff on TPT etc). Teachers might be tweaking those materials for their students and only feel ready to share it all at the end of the units.

Last thing: also many of the mentioned above are inherent to physics/science, keeping tabs on what precalc/calc (esp AP) teachers do I've also noticed a shift towards teacher-created/shared resources (Bryan Passwater and Tony Record are some familiar names bc they offer their tremendous materials

Thanks, I'm familiar (though I wish it would produce vector images instead of raster images!). Looking to avoid coming up with data, plotting data, etc and just have a nice variety already :-P

to take from the text (not a humble brag lol)
malmeida.bsky.social
Personally, I remember reading my HS physics textbook (shoutout Holt Physics!). There are parts of it that I distinctly remembered from HS bc it was the class textbook when I first started teaching it. But I think I also quickly learned (?) that I was in the minority in terms of how much I was able
cover to Holt Physics

Finally, I might guess that we sometimes have "low expectations" for what students are capable of extracting from the text (esp as more students turn to video for learning) and the kind of reflection/stamina that's required to realize you didn't get something & to re-read that section.

of their time.

I really liked the idea of Perusall, for example, but again hard to square with experience-first philosophy sometimes (esp since it feels like the kind of tool that really benefits from consistent use)
malmeida.bsky.social
esp when other resources are used consistently

I'd also guess that there's been more of a shift to experiment/experience first and it can be hard to square that with using a textbook sometimes. Feels like having students "read" what they just experienced/we summarized doesn't feel like a great use

In my case, I definitely mention it early on in the year (and don't even use it much for problems honestly because other resources allow for more immediate feedback) but the mentioning it as a resources falls off over the course of the year so likely gets "forgotten" as a resource mentioned
