I completed this painting a year ago. The state of the world seems to be stuck between chaos and indifference.

I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

I keep thinking about how General Gronewold said that the Oregon Guard would protect Oregonian protesters. I would love to see the Guard stand in front of that blue line at the ICE building and protect protesters from the illegal and brutal actions of ICE. What a powerful image that would create.

Thoughts from today: when you're sharing news stories, are you framing your presentation of said story in a way that promotes your ultimate goal of restoring democracy? Are you motivating people to take action? Or scaring the shit out of them? Is your framing aiding the fascists or fighting them?

Having a hard time keeping up with things in your daily life?

World outside seems upside down?

No longer enjoying the same things you once did?

Future feels dark and scary?

You may be experiencing fascism. Fortunately, there’s a cure!

Celeste dos Cravos (2025), acrylic gouache (+ tiny bit of watercolour) on hot pressed paper (A3)

The traditional version of the illustration I painted digitally last year, now as I had first envisioned it :)

Kaiser in Oregon has Covid vaccines available. Just FYI. Getting mine and my flu shot today. Because vaccines save lives. And good public health is community care.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST LET US HAVE A FEW MOMENTS OF HOPE

Do y’all not understand how hope is active? How it is motivating? How it drives people to fight?

If you try to stamp out every last ray of hope and every good moment and every tiny bit of happiness you have truly doomed us all.
There’s a certain type of poster that seems to think it’s helpful to stamp out anything hopeful in the name of being realistic about how bad things are.

Don’t be that poster.

We know how bad things are. But for most of us, hope helps a lot more than your cynicism.

Rebellions are built on hope…
