Samuel, I get what you're saying, but people aren't averages. I.e., although many more babies and children died back then, that still doesn't change the practical "likelihood" of making it into one's 80s in the 18th c. When the SCOTUS was first formed, a justice's life term was only a decade or so.

T. Paul, I agree. But I think a lot of us also worry that the files have been scrubbed or destroyed in ways that are unrecoverable. What are your thoughts on that? Or do you think that there are enough copies that altering or destroying them would be futile.
