we have a small wishlist and i will keep sharing it, we keep hearing from families who trust us or trust their networks to trust us

alderman hopkins plans to re-introduce the snap curfew in december

city council is looking to consolidate control for police using the death of a Black teenager to do it

sundown town chicago
a snap curfew in chicago is designed to expand police powers and make the world smaller for young people, for us all

we can predict the snap curfew for june 12 and june 13, we can see the police stops at the beaches this summer

the curfew is designed to make chicago a sundown town

the legislative branch is getting involved as the last player

the executive branch and the judicial branch are already involved and what could impact chicagoans is if the Mayor was involved in missing union dues money
maybe it is in your best interest to not really respond when the spectacle of embezzlement is on the opposite side of your response
the letter that CTU sent to the House Committee:

"We are concerned that your Committee is being used as a stalking horse for the plaintiffs in that litigation, and that you are exercising your oversight responsibilities in an inappropriate way to aid a party in a contested lawsuit."

i was thinking about all the ways to get to and from betwen here and there and by far my favorite and most useful is mass transit buses

all infrastructure should be built around the bus being supreme

Can't help thinking the world wd be different, and so many people freer—in the true sense of freedom, not in the "excuse to harass, abuse, dehumanize, and punch down" sense—if @monaeltahawy.bsky.social & @saranahmed.bsky.social were mandatory reading for all girls & women from hs & college onward.

I can't remember who it was reviewing whom & internet seqrch is broken but the phrase has stuck, calling a supposedly major USian writer "fundamentally dishonest at the level of the sentence." It's been my guiding star since: to be honest at the level of the sentence. And so many writers aren't.

university of chicago has an interest in keeping surveillance technology that produces mounds of data because the university keeps data-sharing agreements with most of the city's agencies

a sociology professor who wants to make an algorithmic review creates the imperative for a test market
this entire opinion piece makes a background assumption about technology and safety, that I fundamentally do not agree with and have never experienced as a woman of color

safety is not the technology and never will be, it's in the relations we hold with each other

this entire opinion piece is flawed

i don't think we should expand our procurement apparatus to include algorithm reviews of new technology for 'safety'

hire more cops to look at technology before we buy it is not a fix to being safe from white supremacy
academics and non-profits holding technology supreme continually make the mistake in Chicago

"If the city cannot see, study or share the data private firms collect from the city, then it cannot evaluate whether the technologies work or whether they harm communities."
Rewiring city's technology ties following ShotSpotter saga
At a moment when an authoritarian president is seeking every tool possible to target his perceived political enemies, there is no better time for Chicago to rethink how it does business with technolog...

sometimes you have to back up from a building and look up to find one of its coolest details 🦁

there is a publishing house that functions as the mouthpiece for the ISO {defunct-ish} and it often really discounts its books to move its language around leftist circles

but how things are categorized matters and Disability is not a category for their books

it is always valid to name our material conditions

a zine that was published over a decade ago that is still relevant to naming the materiality of why it matters to contextualize misogyny and social control that predictably appears in leftist spaces

why misogynists make great informants

it's really impressive that the technology industry has made it seem as though safety lies in the adherence to strict technical standards

safety is in the relational and anyone who tells you different is a charlatan
security isn't a technical problem, it's a social one

as @saranahmed.bsky.social writes in Complaint:

"we know that some of the most revealing papers in the colonial archives - and by revealing, I mean revealing colonial violence - were destroyed by the colonizers. It can be telling, which papers are not preserved."
