as part of the disability zine i am working on funded by @wildramppublishing.bsky.social, i am making a deck of cards that will serve as a directory of chicago public schools mucky mucks

it'll include anyone a student or parent would need to send notice to about a special education violation at CPS
and those who know me know that i tend to underplay my hand, that's why I win at card playing

it's still abolish ICE and borders
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Friends, we are over halfway to completing this GFM, enabling our departed neighbor’s family to pay for his funeral arrangements.

Please keep sharing, donating, and assisting his brother in honoring his life.

i had a check-in with library workers in Hennepin County this morning, Hennepin county includes Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs

they were feeling tired and energized at once and something we can do if we don't live there is pump everyone up who is there

morale is so important

Thinking a lot about those worms eating at the rind today.
I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two -
And see what worms are eating
At the rind.

you deliberately misinterpret me, like constantly
see me only as the man
who represents
the ten bridges I've burnt
but not the hundred that I've built
girl, fuck you
whether or not
multiplicity is
to your taste
I shall give you a feast

some of this is clarified in maternal theory

positioning care work as the opposite of policing ignores the very real policing that happens inside mutual aid allowing the ideology behind intensive mothering to flourish, reinforcing patriarchal structures
there are some thoughts swimming here but not yet clarified on how it's actually misogyny directing the language of care work which simultaneously does not serve as an interruption of policing

it doesn't even create the options to interrupt policing, it's like a weird parallel play offering
reclassifying police abolition and mutual aid as care and begging for the valuation of that is not where i want to spend my time

i have seen enough spaces that would never publicly call attention to issues by calling police but institute their own social control, treatment as they would say

it's obviously India there is no argument
Every person from a mango growing country thinks mangos from their country are the absolute best and will ride or die for them.

Get a few people from these countries in a room, ask them who has the best mango and then…

at the moment, i'm imagining with a couple other nerd friends what it would mean to retool the student assignment system at chicago public schools

one question that has reappeared over the years, really decades, is do we want racial balance in schools and who should manage that choice

This happened just yesterday, so we are still navigating a situation with a bunch of unknowns. Please help if you can. Positive vibes also requested!
Our community-run art gallery flooded. Building management will get the space back into habitable condition, but we lost a bunch of stuff and we're closed for who knows how long.

We're a tiny volunteer org that spends like $20K a year, so a $3,000 emergency is a big problem. Please help us out:
