any press that is not honest about this position is centering their own urgency, another tentacle of white supremacy

meanwhile, survival depends on growing seasons, harvesting seasons, resting seasons, making sure our roots are healthy

when we think about who is meant to consume a story or a food, it makes it clear what labor and whose labor goes into the creation of it garlic snapes, lavendar and other green plants grown in a community garden in chicago

often, the part we need to consume is hidden under layers and is based on the labor of Black and brown women who are in whisper networks because public narratives is terrain where our power is not found - after all, public narrative is a white patriarchal construct

it's silly to think that press would be first to know or experience anything, at best it is a palimpsest of others' experiences

those with lived experience are sent through a wood chipper for an audience, used to prove the value of press

but we can keep our own archives, we can save our own seeds
greens, grown in a community garden in chicago

recently a white press person named Jennifer Bamberg, tried to convince a group of us that unraveled press, peoples fabric and shawn mulcahy were the leftist's press - that they are keeping our stories

women have not needed to rely on public narrative for eons in order to keep our archives, our whisper networks are far more valuable to us

to rely on press to keep ourselves is to release control to spaces mediated by whiteness swiss chard, grown in a community garden in chicago

years ago, lauren fitzpatrick at the suntimes approached me to work on a story related to how CPS Legal and CPS Office of Inspector General were interacting

the Office of Inspector General had an ongoing investigation into CPS Legal Chief Counsel and when I shared information with the SunTimes' Lauren Fitzpatrick, a curious thing occurred afterward

there was retaliation from CPS Legal onto my 6 year old daughter in school and this is when I learned that some of the source material that could only be attributed to me had been shared by the reporter back to CPS Legal

there was no cover, no consideration for our safety and when I approached the reporter about this, she redefined the story she was working on

I learned later that CPS Legal was high on the source list for many reporters in Chicago who report on education, for some CPS Legal is the number one source

one critique i have about press is their fixation on being first — first to the scene, first to get the scoop, first to print, claiming to be first to know things

urgency is a white supremacy construct bringing exploitation and violence along in the process, making erasure for Black and brown women
a picture of a brussels sprouts stalk with marigolds in the background, grown in a community garden in chicago

a useful question in anything is who is the audience - who is meant to consume this a picture of a squash, grown in a community garden in chicago

i don't respect press that continually works for the scoop, that yells FIRST - so much of the spectacle of press and sometimes the grievance of indie press is that they go unrecognized for being their first, they are reaching to be called Cassandras

but for whom is that for, who is actually the one with the foresight

i have noticed in chicago that indie press like unraveled, people's fabric and the chicago reader are calling attention to use of force by the State which is not a new condition for many of us and they want credit for being first - who is that for? who is meant to consume that?

certainly not a Black or brown woman

survival is a slow and steadily paced use of energy and resources

it doesn't matter who gets there first, who finishes first, who knew it first — it matters that we all finish
a group of deep orange petaled marigolds in a bunch growing in a community garden in chicago

we stay safe in numbers, together a picture of a jalapeño, a red bell pepper, a handful of red tomatoes, a deadheaded sunflower, deadheaded marigolds and a piece of cardboard with marigold seeds, nasturtium seeds, sunflower seeds and broccoli seed pods laying on an iron table in a community garden in chicago

we can do our own labor, tell our own stories and share our resources with each other without responding to the dreadscape that press makes things, never celebrating our resiliency and usually trying to extract for their own benefit

i am mad at the environment in chicago that enables white women to call brown women dangerous and i think chicago should be smarter, sharper and stop protecting men who are abusive

it's not too much to ask and i'm not going to demand less

chicago's local version of the electronic frontier foundation is lucy parsons labs

and this whole thread applies to them

i learned that talking about my experiences with them and critiquing men in power will bring in press like current darling unraveled press to call me dangerous

ridiculous

4/ Borsook divided the tech ”libertarians” into two main types: the Ravers and the Gilders.

The Ravers are the ones who go to Burning Man and project countercultural ideas. The Gilders are the Peter Thiel types, more overtly focused on money and power.

But they are birds of a feather.
From Cyberselfish: Emblem of the ravers is former Grateful Dead lyricist and Electronic Frontier Foundation* cofounder John Perry Barlow. Barlow
wrote the notorious "Declaration of Independence of Cyber-
space," which, in language longing to evoke Henry David Thoreau
in "Civil Disobedience" and the Jefferson Airplane's late '60s revo-
lutionary call-to-arms, "Volunteers of America," cries out that you
are old and sick and tired and tyrannical and we are beautiful and
free and loving and of the future. Posted Net-wide, his "Declara-
tion" is perhaps the best-known expression of this kind of techno-
libertarianism. It's no coincidence that the last fad that Timothy
Leary embraced before his death was the Net and that he was
taken on as a kind of Jove figure by Barlow and other cyberhippie
Utopians.

i am similarly tired of seeing the "immigrants make america great" line

people shouldn't need to have a qualifier in order to exist in space and time

what if i don't make the cut on great, does that mean it's ok to disappear me

also he traffics in fatphobia, it's an overall trash segment
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
i am noticing that many people lack the range to discuss immigrant communities and our needs or even humanize us
