a lot of people know they need to stretch food and simultaneously cannot stock up

we can be more than in solidarity, we can share resources with each other

people take care of each other, consider buying shelf staples for others if you cannot immediately think of someone to share food with
there is not a small number of people who can no longer go to the grocery store or the food pantry, there are many who are taking risks

we have a small wishlist and i will keep sharing it, we keep hearing from families who trust us or trust their networks to trust us

cps will protect the administrators at this school rather than work to serve a student, this school was meant to be a rosy picture of integration

but when a mom of color speaks up, she is roundly retaliated upon, she holds a mirror up to the white administrators and they don't like the picture
a parent is here to speak about Ogden/Jenner and how unfairly her student is being treated

he has had lunch taken away from him twice, a sports coach has retaliated, the case manager is refusing to implement the 504

CTU wants to make a demand for bargaining around ICE

CTU is following other unions now on how to handle ICE, they didn't lead here

they are bought into the idea of delivering food to people who are at home

i agree

here we go

my thread will be a potpourri of commentary, notes, FOIA filing and maybe FOIA results that I'm reading while things are slow

if you are not in the board room and would like to follow along with the meeting instead of listening to that podcast, here is the youtube link

hats off to the people around me who do cool things and especially the women who ground me in perspective

it would be really nice if this place had locked accounts

there is a white man who likes to do surveillance on women and all he does is continue to make legitimate sounding social media accounts under the guise of being anti-surveillance

but what he's doing is using technology to surveil

it is always valid to name our material conditions

a zine that was published over a decade ago that is still relevant to naming the materiality of why it matters to contextualize misogyny and social control that predictably appears in leftist spaces

why misogynists make great informants

this development started as a proposal for 57 units and was then revised down and in this notice, it's been revised down again

Gil should not have this amount of power over whether a development can move forward, no alderman should

i want to know the maximum number of units that land can support
if you live in the 36th ward, final community meeting next thursday about the vacant auto parts store site on chicago ave and washtenaw

you know every racist neighbor will be there screaming their heads off about parking and affordable housing, so let’s try to stiffen our weaselly alderman’s spine

the CPS Board meeting is this Thursday at 10:30am downtown at 42 West Madison

if you plan to go in person, remember you cannot bring anything to drink through security

but you can bring your devices and file FOIAs of CPS using the CPS internet
January:

a FOIA workshop
chicago research desk office hours
zine on disability and cps
a FOIA lawsuit
art and then more art and then more art
meetings with local reporters
a visit to an archive
a public meeting
a state of affairs of transportation

watch out for invitations and updates 🏵️
i had a thought that this year i would file a FOIA a day and see what happens but as it turns out

i have a lot of substantial projects underway and i want to do them really well, i owe the people i am in community with that much

so this me saying no to myself, revising expectations and reinvesting

Waiting for my severely delayed flight and my temper is not being improved by the fact that I am writing about the 1949 Abducted Persons Act. The birth of the supposedly secular constitutional democracy of India began with the forcible state abduction of 30,000 women. Yes I’m a killjoy historian.

as part of the disability zine i am working on funded by @wildramppublishing.bsky.social, i am making a deck of cards that will serve as a directory of chicago public schools mucky mucks

it'll include anyone a student or parent would need to send notice to about a special education violation at CPS
and those who know me know that i tend to underplay my hand, that's why I win at card playing

it's still abolish ICE and borders
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

i had a check-in with library workers in Hennepin County this morning, Hennepin county includes Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs

they were feeling tired and energized at once and something we can do if we don't live there is pump everyone up who is there

morale is so important
