I'm not a gamer but one of the best pieces I read a few years ago is to do this if you are giving a console to your kids as a gift. Install it first, then pack it back up before you wrap it. Then the kids can just plug & play.

Just did the whole open the new console, do all the updates and installs, then pack neatly away back in the box ready for xmas day. The kid is going to lose his mind.

I realized that as our kids get older, this means they are staying up later, particularly on weekends. If we don't start a movie before 9:30... forget about it. At least one of us is falling asleep
